Really not going to put up with the same people misusing this Forum and wasting my time. Those posters have had enough warnings and take no notice, so really can't come as any surprise.

I tend to just ignore it, I get a headache trying to figure out who is on what side or who is targeting who. If a thread hasn't completely runaway from the original point I'll add my opinion on the matter and accept all the uppies and downies coming my way (top tip: never take these personally). If someone throws a personal barb my way, oh well.

I did get bizarrely labelled a Nazi recently for daring to give my view on the practicality of international power structures regarding the Israel/Palestine situation, thankfully Mr Ham nipped that in the bud pretty fast.

I suppose the reason I don't do it is that in such a context, what I post is often ignored, so I tend to think, what's the point of my wasting my time?

That Nazi comment was mad, and completely out of context with what you had posted. Worth noting that poster wasn't one of our regulars.

Stuff on here gets way too personal though, and some posters really ought to take 5 sometimes. We all post stuff we probably ought not to at times, but some just can't step away from a situation and reflect a bit. That applies to people with views across the board on here.

That's a deeper question and broader discussion! What is the point in any of this? How much time do we all waste scrolling through and commenting on things with our hot takes that will be forgotten about in five minutes time - if they aren't just ignored completely. (Am talking most social media, not just TWTD). Remember that zinger I dropped in a thread about Starmer on the 5th July? Nope, nor does anyone else.

Prefer not to think about that to be honest.

Indeed there’s effectively two rival groups of posters on here - it’s like bloods v crips (albeit a middle class version)!

Ed Sheeran thread was a classic example, stopped being about the subject about half way through the many pages, the thread pull was inevitable.

There have been occasions recently when I've been minded to give up on TWTD because of the nasty nature of debate on threads like the pulled one.

Some people don't debate the issue but instead resort to personal abuse which often seem related to grievances they have due to previous interactions presumably over many years.

Bearing grudges, ganging up with others, bringing up past comments or interactions and being truculent is very childish, and I think that there are some on here who need to take a long, hard look a themselves.

I might add that I wouldn't have put Sitters in this category, but I don't know what went on that led to his ban.

And I will especially miss his posting of away ticket information.

Any volunteers to take his place?

My approach.

If I find a thread particularly "triggering" and find myself replying more than once to a poster and the tone is angry/antagonist etc and getting to me, I have now started to hide that thread and remove temptation.

If the same is happening with a particular poster across different threads, even the urge to reply with the above tone / feelings, I know block that poster from my view.

I'm not perfect and can be antagonistic and somewhat argumentative, so the above is sometimes in my best interest as well.

There is so much good stuff on here which is footy related, general news, political views, personal updates and other crisp, cheese and music nonsense, I refuse to allow the few to spoil the rest of it for me.

Honestly, the hide thread feature is an absolute god send. If you can see the beginnings of it descending into madness, one click and you can pretend it doesn't exist.

And like you, I've been sucked in before but honestly that feature has helped me more than once.

Why would you want to prevent graffiti?

TBH I wouldn't and its a bit of a shit analogy.

Depends what it is though, I enjoy some. Generally don't see a lot of good graffiti around though, I'd say most of what I see is crap and more closely resembles vandalism than actual art.

I probably will never leave partly because of what you say in your last paragraph and partly because there are a number of posters I really like and get on well with, and not just those whose politics align with mine.

Humans like to talk over things. Anything and everything. It's how our species does social interaction and structuring. More palatable than picking off fleas or regurgitating food into each other's mouths (those can lead to fights in the animal and bird worlds, too).

People cut off from social interaction often don't do well. It's why solitary confinement is a serious punishment.

It might sometimes become antagonistic as people and viewpoints jostle for supremacy, but it is far healthier than silence

Good answer.

I would add, occasionally, maybe far too rarely, someone might pay attention and learn something new or have a rethink about their entrenched position. Myself included.

It does happen occasionally. I remember Lagos' excellent posts around Hillsborough and his experiences that day which did change some posters' "always the victims" attitude towards Liverpool fans.

As you say, far too rare.

We're not all wired the same though. Some people are quite happy on their own not having any interest participating in many discussions, then something comes along that interests them and boom, suddenly they will have quite a ferocious intensity on the topic.

That sounds like it should be a Viz character: Reasonable Dick (he's mild and pleasant to everybody). At the end of each comic strip he gets beaten up by people who've taken massive offence at something innocuous he's said.

Myself too.

I’m sorry to say that I’d been a “surely all lives matter” ignoramus, until I received a gentle re-education on here from several people about the BLM movement.

Important to stress that word *gentle*. Everyone was polite, it remained strictly educational and respectful, no one got shouty or abusive, so I felt I could stay on the thread to learn.

100% they do. I remember the mental health thread from several years ago - quite a few posters changed their views on things and have often cited that as a turning point for them.

So many people take this forum way too seriously and seem obsessed with winning the internet. It really is quite something. The majority on here seem well educated, intelligent folks with a wide spectrum of views on many different matters, but they completely lose their heads on here - I often wonder what they are like in 'real life.'

Keeps me entertained on my lunch breaks though. Back to lurking I go.

Yes, this and the constant seeking of confirmation bias. I wonder if these people talk to anyone, they disagree with in real life! Too seriously is correct.

Just so I know for any future postings from myself or anyone else, is ending a post with initials banned for everyone? Or just some people? Ie if I end this post with RB is that me Romeo dunne? Or if someone else, let’s say Swansea_Blue ends his with his initials.. is that allowed? Is it some letters are ok and some aren’t? Just want to know as I’m considering moving to Swindon and would like to know if that then makes me illegible or not for future signatures. Cheers.
