Should be a sin bin type of punishment introduced on here?
Yellow card two weeks ban,Red card one month ban.If you come back and are a pain to admin then a one year ban.
When you look back at some of the decent people we have lost over the years,it’s sad really.
Just use the arrow system to vote if you can be bothered.

Decent idea in theory, but a 2-week ban is pretty light & might be considered worth risking by some who are prepared to push the boundaries?
Likely to create more work for admin in, err, administering the lists & calendar too. |  |

Despite significant evidence to the contrary, I'd like to think that people can be civil enough to avoid bans in the first place; judicious use of the ignore option on the part of some may help with that.
Beyond that I'm happy for Phil to police the site however he wishes, thouigh that said the greater range of punishments and the more complex the rules for their application will surely only result in Phil using more of his time in a policing capacity - I don't see that as a good thing.

It's more than just acceptance of different views though.
I think it would be better for greater unsderstanding/acceptance if the standard of debate (not just here but, well, everywhere) went beyond "It's blue.", "No it's not, it's red". So if someone wants to express an opinion, fine, but at least offer some context/"defence" of that position with a little reasoning. But social media generally (and in this context I guess TWTD counts as social media) seems less and less about debate and discussion.
Now I accept that such discussions may have already occured on here in the past and any rehearsal risks a simple re-statement of pre-established and possibly entrenched positions but nevertheless without the necessary context won't we always struggle to understand each other? | |

It's also relative to how often somebody posts on here and how much of an 'outlet' it is to them. Some people may be happy to take the hit if they only post on here to wind people up every few weeks or so. |  |

Re the bans, I'm not sure of too many that you could argue with tbh, based on my recollections.
Sitters seemed a bit harsh perhaps, but Phil will have had his reasons, and sitters going into another thread to dig at another poster at the same time as the main thread probably didn't help him. I'm sure he'll get a reprieve at some point though. | |

Not seen what went on so can't comment on that, but your idea seems a reasonable one.
But hammer, nail, head, some here just downvote for the sake of it, read what they want to read and twist the original post into something it's not and can't accept a different viewpoint.
People fail to understand a post is a snapshot in time of what said person is thinking/feeling. Obviously on a matchday if we've lost many are gonna be peeved. |  |

exactly; in effect people already get brief bans, longer bans and permanent bans as benty is proposing.
can't think of anyone who didn't deserve their bans, and some were long overdue.

More likely they just want to keep their head down for a while till the heat dies down so that they can come back refreshed and ready to go again!

threads that get pulled are often a bit of a team effort. one poster goes over the top, but the thread had usually been heading that way and others had played a part in winding up and baiting and pursuing people. those group dynamics must be hard for phil to pick up on if he only sees the reported posts and the page around them. there is clearly quite a skill in heating up a thread but not being on the exact spot when it blows up. |  |
