| Walton not good enough 15:45 - Oct 17 with 12981 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | You need your keeper to be having a worldie at the Ethiad to have any chance, but for all that hard work we are putting in as outfield players and managed to get back into game. Both looked savable but Jesus that second, not good. | |

Of course it was saveable, he did the hard bit! It then bounced up, hit the back of his hand and goes in. I get the criticism but a few of you are looking for issues with him imo.

Hardly superb. It was a shot basically at his leg. A save you should expect your keeper to make. If that goes in then he’s had a shocker.

Im not looking for issues with him, but i feel for scherpen to get dropped it has to be because walton is the better keeper and he's simply not showing it.

Smart stop and clearly a very important one in injury time but it was extremely close to him and he threw a leg at it. Good save. However, the idea that he made worldies today first half was funny and that save last week was somehow Banks v Pele and yet no criticism for anything he ever lets in! Just kind of sums up the mindset on him from a lot of people on here. Scherpen made far better saves at Old Trafford than anything we saw today, although I don’t think he was blameless on some he let in there either. Really do worry this will be the reason if the season ends up going wrong in the end.

| Walton not good enough on 17:51 - Oct 17 by tractorboy1978 | Thought today summed him up. 3 goals not necessarily clangers or his fault but all ones a better keeper has a chance of saving. He’s not a poor goalkeeper, just an average Championship one. It’s the area of the team where we are weakest and the obvious position where we need to upgrade unless Scherpen comes back in and shows why we signed him. [Post edited 17 Oct 17:52]

The point you are missing regarding Walton is what he more than makes up for over the 3 keepers that have been brought in to replace him (that he has seen off) composure and the confidence that he gives the defence. Granted his reflexes at shot stopping are not world class like a Pickford or Martinez but he is generally solid at crosses and decent at kicking too. You are probably right that he is a stop gap to the end of the season (don’t believe there will be anyone better in Jan) but we couldn’t afford giving Scherpen a lengthy spell like Muric was to the new year or beyond given the mistakes he were making and how jittery the defence looked in front of him. Walton is not perfect but a known quantity and with better defending today some of those shots don’t come at him.

With Dan talking about luck earlier on, that save last week was luck it was straight at him. We saw today with haalands 2nd goal, it was slightly to the side of walton's foot and he didn't save it. But also, that First haaland goal so poor, it's so close he could have caught it [Post edited 17 Oct 18:19]

| Can we please stop digging out our goalkeepers???? on 18:22 - Oct 17 with 762 views | CrockerITFC | The reason why all the outfield players had a better game is because every other position on the pitch is a million times easier than playing in goal. There's far less jeopardy in every other position combined than the goalkeeper position. If it wasn't for Walton last week we draw against Fulham. Funny how quickly that's forgotten by some of our negative "supporters". | | | | Login to get fewer ads

bounce has beaten him, that is not easy and someone suggested he could have caught it . No idea. Didn't realize it hit is head off his hand. Almost headed it out.

Basic goalkeeping, christ we're talking about what makes a prem keeper It's not kicking a shot that hits your foot, it's stopping goals that like today are close to you to save. You can see in the clip, his footwork isn't quick enough, a better keeper holds that header. [Post edited 17 Oct 18:29]

Can’t believe people are so excited about him throwing a leg and blocking that, good save but it’s not something special like what Outtarra done. Today he was very poor and genuinely think we get something with a PL level keeper.

If he feels he needs to pop up because we're having a discussion about prem level keeping, that's upto him isn;t it. We've dropped a new number 1 keeper for another, it's completely fair to discuss that replacements performances. For those who spoke of scherpens 'unlucky' goals conceded, were you trying to get called out by his dad?

Kind of odd how people are so desperate to shift any blame from him. I’m not saying we defended the chances perfectly but he was poor on the goals. He had our lowest rating (the only rating under 6 on FotMob) and I’d very much agree with that. Sensitive bunch when it comes to any players that have been here a while. Not his fault, he’s a decent EFL keeper but I don’t think it will cut it in the Prem.

Look at my posting history I said the same thing to the people who called out Scherpen over nothing... you and Joey are now doing exactly the same. Walton was injured at the start of the season, O'Neil confirmed in the last presser that Scherpen was bought in originally as the backup goalie. Get behind the team guys

I’m behind anyone wearing the shirt but doesn’t mean you can’t voice your concerns as a fan after a performance. As for GON comments, you can’t surely believe that! He was starting against Bayern and Galatasaray in the CL last year, the data had obviously told us he was going to be the answer for this season but he was then dropped on form. Personally, I had concerns as soon as I saw his height, in terms of even that might of meant for athleticism. CW hasn’t been our starter for any of the last 3 seasons, whatever league we are in or whoever is the manager. [Post edited 17 Oct 19:02]

Quite. Once you’ve given a team like Man C free crosses and free runs onto the end of those crosses, you’re already in big trouble and relying on a miracle from the keeper. I thought Walton did save the second and then got unlucky with the bounce. Maybe a stronger hand and cleaner contact to push it away, but he’d have had to have done something really special. Certainly not to blame in any way.

Have you seen how many goals conceded that are actually close to a keeper. Sometimes the one that need a full length dive are the easy ones, like today. Ideally Walton would not be in goal, if we had bought a Prem ready keeper. It is what it is.
