| Reported 100 points deduction seems a light sentence to me 08:27 - Oct 20 with 5008 views | muccletonjoe | To impose a 100 point penalty on Manchester City would be far short of what is needed , even as a future deterrent. For years they have bought players no other team could afford , operated under conditions which were clearly contradictory to the rules and have had an unfair advantage over every other team in the league. They have assembled teams no other club could aspire to within the rules. They should be banned from the Premier league / Europe for a minimum of 5 years , stripped of all titles and trophies they won with an unfair advantage and fined the sort of sums they overspent. If the Premier league wants to retain any integrity from their own rules. , this has to be a radical punishment , which at least goes some way toward fitting the crimes involved. Abu Dhabi would simply claim that the club's executives had gone rogue and deceived them also. Would need a real smoking gun to prove a link to the very top. That's before you bring geopolitics into it. |
The Premier League can't but the independent football regulator can. Enforcement Powers as follows (Excuse the AI slop): 2. Available Enforcement Powers If the findings of extensive financial rule breaches stand, the IFR can initiate a review. If the owners fail the ODSE test, the regulator's statutory powers include: • Removal Directions: Directing the owners to take all reasonable steps to cease their ownership. • Ownership Removal Orders: In extreme cases of non-compliance, forcing a divestment or sale of the club to an approved third party, which can include appointing trustees to manage the club's transition. • Disqualification Orders: Informally or permanently banning individuals from holding executive positions in English football.

They'll be back in their right place in the 3rd tier of football before long, and if you speak to City fans, they seemed happier when they won the PO final against Gillingham, than they did winning the PL. |
30 points would not be enough to keep them in the Championship. Especially with the extended play-offs, they would surely rack up 100+ points (before the deduction) and finish in the top eight.

I'd still back them to get a top 8 playoff place in the Championship from -50

I think some of that depends on what else goes with it e.g. transfer restrictions. I can't see many of their squad sticking around for a season in the Championship even for one season so a 30 point deduction with a heavily weakened squad does it make it a lot less certain they'd get close to promotion.

Needs to be that to have any sort of impact doesn't it. As others have said the academy is good so they have that to fall back on. It's just a hell of a pickle that needs sorting for the good of English football.

Apart from the Smiths, that sounds reasonable. No one should have to endure the smiths, apart from when doing psychological warfare type activities, against really bad baddies, even then, Geneva Convention types may show concern. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Reported 100 points deduction seems a light sentence to me on 14:17 - Oct 20 with 894 views | BrayBlue | Man City should be forced to pay back all 714pts they accrued between 2008-18, the period when they were guilty of cheating - and here’s how: next season they start on - 714pts. For the sake of easy maths, let’s say they earn 100pts, that would see them relegated on -614pts. Here’s the crucial bit: the points deduction rolls over! So whenever they return to the PL they would start on -614pts, and so on until all 714pts have been repaid. It would take City a decade or so to wipe the slate clean, roughly the same amount of time they were cheating - seems fair to me? Cheers, JK | | | |

Man City have no external debt, Liverpool are £400M in debt, Man Utd much more yet only one is being punished. Spurs have spent much more on players yet they can carry on regardless. Total farce enforced by the traditional bigger clubs to prevent clubs like Man City etc from grabbing a slice of the Champions League cake. |
Spot on. Man City are a symptom - not the cause.

Slightly different wasn't it? HMRC did the financial damage together with the fact that they had 4 owners in one season, PL just fined them 9 points, and then the EFL fined them 10 the next season.

| Reported 100 points deduction seems a light sentence to me on 17:00 - Oct 20 with 734 views | Oldsmoker | Everton with one (ONE) misdemeanor - 10 points reduce to 6. Citeh with 112 (FFS) so let's do the maths... Let's go with the lower figure of 6 but they deserve 10 all day long... 6 x 112 = 672. max pts in EPL = 38 x 3 = 114. max pts in championship = 46 x 3 = 138 max pts in lg1 = 46 x 3 = 138 max pts in lg2 = 46 x 3 = 138 max pts in Nat lg = 46 x 3 = 138 total points = 114+138+138+138+138=666 (sign of the devil - no surprise) That leaves a 6 point deduction as they start next season in National League North. I make that right. | |

It’s immaterial whether their cheating continued post 2018. The muscle memory from the decade of cheating was embedded in the football club and has delivered the success that followed. I’d strip them of everything they won domestically since the cheating started but not reallocate, leave them as blank. A significant financial penalty. And then some form of punishment through points or removal from league that guarantees them a spell out of the prem. I don’t know how you work that. These rolling points deductions just make whatever league they land in each year a bit of a shitshow.

| Reported 100 points deduction seems a light sentence to me on 17:15 - Oct 20 with 714 views | IPSWICH1078 | I think they need to give them a rolling points deduction. Say 300 point deduction. If they reach 100 points this season then they start next season in the Championship on -200. That should take them a few years to get back. 5 year transfer embargo. A single 100 point deduction isn't enough. They'll bounce straight back up. They cheated for 10 years so the punishment should be reflective of their crime. | | | |
| Reported 100 points deduction seems a light sentence to me on 19:26 - Oct 20 with 645 views | armchaircritic59 | That equates to a 10 point penalty for each year they've been accused of. Which isn't even a slap on the wrist. No good fining them, whatever the amount, it would be lost change down the back of an Abu Dhabi sofa. I think they should also compensate their own fans who for 10 years were being sold a lie and having to pay a lot of money for the privilege in season tickets etc. In essence they unknowingly were supplying money to the club for the purposes of cheating. I know how'd I feel if it was my club, perish the thought. | | | |

if you are going to follow the logic of 9 seasons it would make more sense to remove all the signings they could not of bought without sham contracts and then remove their contributions. No Aguero, no FA cup. In fact remove all his goal contributions. Remove all the keepers saves. Removes all the defenders blocks. Remove Tevez. Remove Fernadinho's stats. Why assume they are challenging for trophies when most clubs whom cannot spend often flirt with the opposite side end of the table. How do we know city wouldn't of been relegation fodder without their sham payments. Don't understand why the assumption is they only won medals and cups. A premier league place is also something fought for and won every season and they won those by sham means as well.

Expulsion from the Premier League, and they should have to apply to join a league outside of the EFL. And have the titles and trophies stripped.
