| Gary O’Neil - that’s on YOU! on 16:19 - Nov 8 by Nutkins_Return | Only if you base your entire opinion of a keeper on that one mistake or you are chief admiral hindsight. Walton was solid for the rest of the game and that mistake is on Walton and Walton alone. Crucifying Walton is not going to help anyone either now. Gary O'Neil does have a big decision to make for the next game. You OP is the reactionary equivalent of Walton's howler to be honest. You are upset at the result and digging O'Neil out. Bournemouth are a top side. |
It isn’t just one mistake though is it? He cost us a goal at Hull last weekend too! Now we’ll likely go back to Scherpen next time out, and chopping and changing keepers is never a good idea.

He wasnt solid tho No mans land just after their goal they almost scored Never left his goal line Refused to throw the ball out Then wasnt there to cut out the ball from hitting davis Rule number 1 as a keeper anything that goes across the 6 yard box is yours. He is to rigid with his footwork. Hes a champ keeper in all aspects.

No, it’s called overreacting and being moronic. That wasn’t on GON. Starting lineup was fine, subs were made early and he tried to adapt. He can’t be held accountable for a ridiculous goalkeeping error. And before you say “well he decided to start Walton”, Scherpen’s done nothing to suggest that he’s any better.

| Gary O’Neil - that’s on YOU! on 16:25 - Nov 8 | SE1blue | Feel like it was just a bad day at the office for all concerned - nothing dramatic. Think GON set us up well and you can clearly see the plan in the first five minutes, but Walton's howler changed the path a bit. Don't underestimate how good Bournemouth were (are). They closed us down so well that it felt like they had more players much of the time. Actually reminded me of us in the Championship under McKenna - nobody gets a minute's peace and quick on the break. | |

| Gary O’Neil - that’s on YOU! on 16:18 - Nov 8 by Swansea_Blue | It was broadly right. I think it was Glasser’s pre-match team thread where I gave my thoughts on us so far. I wouldn’t set us up much differently; only Scherpen in goals and Flemming are the two definite changes I’d make. I’d just about prefer Maeda on the left and Fatawu on the right, but I’m torn on both of those winger positions. Maeda acting as a narrow winger/second 10 lets Leif do what he does best. But Jack is good as a sub though and probably deserves a start. It’s not happening for Philogene, but I understand why GON is trying to play him into form/fitness. The defence is the best we have. The holding 2 are the best considering Lukic is returning from injury (although Matusiwa has looked surprisingly good in his cameos). Enciso starts for all his faults. I’d like Flemming to get a run though - we know he’s a goal scorer and Emersonn’s numbers are starting to look crap despite the shift he puts in. |
So that’s at least four players you would have started today that didn’t, see what I mean?

But I’m hoping he will address those defensive frailties amd keeper situation ASAP as it’s costly. Far too many errors. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The lack of quick release of the ball really irked me and I presume the crowd too. Several times there was a quick ball on to a player before Bournemouth set. His gift of a goal probably made him decide to just keep kicking long but we weren't getting on the end of the long kicks. In fact that another thing I think we need to work on our long/aerial game the opposition get to the ball first and we rarely get the breaking ball.

I disagree entirely, the manager picks the team and after a rotten performance like that he should shoulder the blame.

Palace aside, Flemming has done very little to show he deserves to start. We lost something when Emmerson went off today.

Well there's only two I'm convinced on - Scherpen and Flemming. But yes, as I said earlier that was part of your first post I broadly agree with. We could set up slightly better imo. It's going to be bumpy - we're amongst the favourites to get relegated. We just need to try and keep our heads. We don't look like a team who's thrown the towel in or that isn't fighting for each other still.

Flemming doesn't seem to press. He's one of those players that feints a run towards a defender but never actually gets there. A very frustrating watch when he's replacing Emmerson who works his socks off.

He was solid after the brain fart. No more and no less. Ultimately that's still too too little too late. What he isn't is top class. We haven't got top class currently. Scherpen has plenty of time to develop of course. Not really understanding the never of his line but as he was doing some sweeping outside his box at times. Are you meaning for crosses?

Yes. You watch him at crosses. No matter how close the ball is to 6 yard box hes nowhere near them. That davis OG too, Walton should be intercepting that too. Its in his box. If hes on his toes he gets to it.

You must have been watching a different game than I was then! Bournemouth were miles better than us, especially first half, and could easily have gone in two or three up at the break. I thought we were second best in every department all game long. Easy to see why Bournemouth are going so well - they press brilliantly and always looked a threat on the breakaway.

Do you actually understand that in this division the majority of teams are better than us and it's actually a given reality that we will lose games regardless of the team we put out? We will also win games because of the team he puts out and work on the training ground. Coaching a team is tough! It's going to be a very long season for you if you can't wrap your head around this. The primary thing that was avoidable today was Walton not making an absolute whopper. It happens but that is the bit that annoyed me today. GON's job is to maximise our CHANCE of winning a game/pick up points against top players and top managers. It's not a computer game. His selections guarantee nothing. Every single football fan has slightly different ideas. Guess what - normally they don't know as much as GON. More often then not your team will perform worse then GON's team.

You're criticising the manager's team selection, but without actually explaining what you thought he got wrong. Who should he have picked instead, and why? It's easy to blame the manager after a defeat, but that doesn't mean he's solely responsible for the result.

Is it unrealistic to expect our manager to pick a more solid starting XI? And against a team who played away in Europe on Thursday, so we had way more rest than they did. Yet they were full of running, especially first half.

Yes he doesn't convince me always at crosses for his size to be fair. Walton is decent but it's certainly an area we have to upgrade. I'm not writing Scherpen off. Think it was harsh to drop him honestly so early. That said I don't subscribe to Walton having been saying but ok since so woulld.have been weird to drop him. Will be interesting now.
