The coronavirus is coming to you. 10:21 - Mar 12 with 23753 views | MaySixth | It’s coming at an exponential speed: gradually, and then suddenly. It’s a matter of days. Maybe a week or two. When it does, your healthcare system will be overwhelmed. Your fellow citizens will be treated in the hallways. Exhausted healthcare workers will break down. Some will die. They will have to decide which patient gets the oxygen and which one dies. The only way to prevent this is social distancing today. Not tomorrow. Today. That means keeping as many people home as possible, starting now.

The coronavirus is coming to you. on 10:24 - Mar 12 with 9110 views | monytowbray | I saw this last night and was part of the reason I started my quite worried thread. I think a lot of governments failed to take this seriously and played it down for economic interests and obviously the idea not to spread mass panic.

The coronavirus is coming to you. on 10:30 - Mar 12 with 9100 views | Darth_Koont | It's not as simple as that. The other side of the coin is that if everyone stays at home now then everyone gets bored of that and we're back to creating the worst spread and the most likely overburdening of the health services. For once in our lives, this is the time to be serious about our information and sources, and our individual response being directed by experts.

He moved to America in 2008 for his MBA at Stanford University, where he specialized in behavioral psychology, design, storytelling, and scriptwriting. Since then, he's worked in Silicon Valley, designing and marketing products to hundreds of millions of customers in the entertainment, finance, and media industries. His first book, The Star Wars Rings, dives into the storytelling structure of Star Wars, and why this has made it the most successful movie saga of all times. Whilst it's interesting to declare it the "truth" given his "expertise" is a tad of an overstretch I fear. He's not really got the skills-set to be taken as the gospel truth unless you want to know about Star Wars. SB | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Didn't see that part. He is playing with data however which is in itself a good skill set for analysis and forecasting.

By 'truth', why do you take the word of this person over other experts? Keen to understand what it is about his credentials that you'll happily hang your hat on and deem to be the truth.

Maybe that's a gamble that needs to be taken? Ireland have just announced they're closing down schools, colleges and public facilities. They're obviously responding to professional advice too (it's almost like there isn't a single agreed upon way to deal with this). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-51850811

labelling things 'fake news' that are not, isn't overly helpful either. I'm not saying this guys workings should be taken as gospel but he appears to be somebody with honest intentions that is good with figures and stats and has come to some logical conclusions. To call this article 'fake news' is a tad unfair, every country has experts advising them as well as the WHO, but there appears to be no universally agreed correct approach. Yes, and each country needs its own response. As with climate change science, the problem is when someone comes in and gives their alternative view on the situation and what we should or should not be doing. They may have the credentials and a point, but who among us knows enough to actually judge that and promote the view? At a time when a concerted, common approach is critical? It's Occam's Razor when it needs to be at its sharpest.
