He looks some player. Easy to forget he's only 19, he bossed that penalty area yesterday like someone well beyond his years. He reads the game so well. Looks properly street wise, a leader and winner too, which with Chambers and Ward now in the fullback areas and the quality of Woolf alongside him is a really nice looking back 4.

Credit where its due to Lambert, he looks like an excellent signing.

I’d like to see those two young CB’s ( Woolfie : McGinness) be our central defence, with Chambo snd Ward at right and left back they have the experience alongside them.

Yeah I agree, I'm convinced that's our best back 4. I love how vocal he is too, proper organiser and we lacked that throughout last season. We really lacked leadership on the pitch last season which he and Ward really help with. The sooner we can get Downes fit the better, he's that missing piece in the middle with Bishop and Dozzell.

As well as all the technical qualities he showed yesterday, he just looks like a proper central defeder, big and scruffy. The last CD who looked more like one was Tony Mowbray.

He’s definitely a bit of a throwback in that respect. My only question mark around him is if he lacks that additional half yard of pace to really threaten a career at the top level. He appears to look more comfortable holding a very deep defensive line. Reminds me of bit of a young Mertesacker, who I believe is still at Arsenal as a coach. Really like the cut of his jib.

He has been caught out of position a few times, other than that, he looks a good prospect

I wouldn’t credit Shambert in the slightest. To say they had any eyes on him prior to the Arsenal U-23 game is sheer and utter bullocks. The guy is a sham...

I doubt Shambert had ever heard of the guy until he played against us. Given that he lines up our formation week in week out in the same way suggests that he doesn’t even scout the opposition nor the way they line up, hence the frauds inability to change the formation to counteract the other side.

Giving him credit - no chance.. just fortunate to snare him the week after he saw him play more like it...!

How long is Downes likely to be out for?

Because Luke Hyam is a free agent and could play that role until his return.

Agreed. Back four as it is could be very good.

Have to tighten up the space in midfield though.

Dozzell has been very good, but he cannot play that singular pivot on his own, I know we are limited on options right now, but that midfield needs to be tightened.

Yep, great to see him and Woolfy out there. If we're playing it out from the back then playing those two is a must.

There were several occassions on Saturday when moves wouldn't have started, or we wouldn't have retained the ball had they not been playing.

It’s the complete opposite of the norm, the fullbacks seem to be the younger lads and CBs older pros.... here at the switch we’ve gone against the grain!
Love that

I would be surprised if there's a professional side in the country with a centre half pairing with a combined age of 39.

Our back 4 has a mean average age of 27, but scratch beneath the surface and we've got 2 centre backs of 19 & 20 and a pair of 35 year old full backs. They're the best 2 footballers we have in that position though, and playing the style we have adopted we can't progress with the alternatives who are more limited on the ball, so good on them. Chambers and Ward are huge to the success of the side this season, not just in their football but the leadership and mentorship to those around them as we progress through the season.

Completely agree. It’ll be interesting to see how he evolves before KVY is fit again to challenge Chambers for the RB slot. The more leaders in this side the better though. Downes is such a big miss at the moment.

Big and scruffy ... I like it, And going back a bit further there's a bit of Allan Hunter in there too, right down to the tight shorts.
