Swimming, golf and tennis to be exempt from lockdown 22:41 - Nov 1 with 3552 views | J2BLUE | So it's a true national lockdown unless you fancy a swim, round of golf, game of tennis, picnic in the park, a trip to the supermarket, meeting a friend outdoors, a takeaway or unlimited outdoor exercise/recreation. A true attack on our freedoms... With a reversal on swimming I assume gyms, indoor and outdoor sports venues and many more will say it's unfair. Are we gradually going to slip back into very light restrictions?

Swimming, golf and tennis to be exempt from lockdown on 22:43 - Nov 1 with 2940 views | BlueBadger | As with all things the government do, being seen to be doing something is infinitely more preferable to actually doing something. Never mind that actually doing something would probably mean a swifter easing of restrictions in the long run.

I'm not talking about once a week for essentials. I'm sure we'll see plenty of people going every couple of days just for somewhere to go. I saw a lot of evidence of this last time in the lead up to Easter.

Swimming, golf and tennis to be exempt from lockdown on 23:31 - Nov 1 with 2794 views | Fixed_It | This really isn't much of a lockdown in reality. You can't go to your mates house, the pub or a restaurant, or get your haircut, go to the gym or play sport. Everything else is pretty much the same as normal. And the kids will bring the virus back from school anyway...

Swimming, golf and tennis to be exempt from lockdown on 06:26 - Nov 2 with 2652 views | Ace_High1 | Golf should be open - the most Covid safe sport there is. As long as you play by yourself/with your household/or with one other it is fine. Clubhouses are closed anyway. At my club I have been playing like this all summer and it has been fine. As long as you have your own clubs you have no need to get close or come into contact with anything other than your own golf clubs. It is not a lockdown anyway and never was - as long as schools are open and we can work then Mon-Fri it is just a normal week for most of us, we can't just have any leisure time at the weekends! Good for golf.

You seem to have a problem with people getting outside and making the most of the opportunity for CV safe pastimes which will be good for their physical and mental well being J2. I for one will get out at every opportunity be that on foot, bicycle or (if allowed, not sure it is yet) motorcycle. I would encourage you to too. A good walk, fresh air will do wonders for you at a time when sitting inside and staring at 4 walls can be extremely stressful. All the evidence points to the outdoors being far safer than indoors. And having a healthy lifestyle is a tool against the Virus too. It is why doctors/health experts/politicians are encouraging people to get outside for exercise, even during lockdown.

I was very critical of your stance on this earlier in the year. But having seen the toll on my kids mental health, and even my mrs, I think you have been spot on from the start.

You were! And you were not alone... But thanks for the comment. I really hope people are brave enough to ignore the tutting/head shaking neighbours and go help themselves keep sane and healthy. Walking, golf, fishing even just get to a isolated spot near the sea/woods...

Couldn't agree more. Walking is something that has always helped keep me sane. I shall continue during this 'lockdown' just like the first.

Swimming, golf and tennis to be exempt from lockdown on 08:33 - Nov 2 with 2357 views | itfcjoe | People are going to need all the help they can get to get through this lockdown with exercise and mental health. I think important that something like swimming is still available as know a number of women won't feel comfortable running around the streets in the dark, which is the reality of it this time round, so needs to be a safe environment for them to exercise in

It's not true. Lagos has posted the link to the Govt's guidance and indoor and outdoor sports facilities are to close. That'll obviously included tennis facilities. Swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges are specifically mentioned.

Absolutely. All the rules do is prevent people from doing organised activities. There's still plenty do do out there on your own or in your bubble. And it is indeed essential to staving off the Covid blues.

People need exercise..... on 09:14 - Nov 2 with 2237 views | Bloots | ....people need to eat, people need to see a relative. Many people rely on a basic level of social activity to simply get through life. There has to be some exceptions. I really don't think that my wife going out for a walk with her elderly Mother, or my Dad going for a round of golf is going to be too disastrous for the health of the country. Without these things they would both really suffer through isolation issues, everyone's personal situation is different.

The irony is that those who shout loudest about people going for walks/exercise etc. would probably be among those who would most benefit from going for walks/exercise etc. Anxiety manifests itself in many ways and lashing out at those who are perceived to be rule breaking I guess is one of them. My favourite was the lady who shouted at a mobile burger van owner stating "You'll be found out soon", in the middle of lockdown1. Guy has 2 big flags on top of his van and regularly serves coppers with a much needed morning coffee :-) [Post edited 2 Nov 2020 9:22]

So they're doing it again? Officially announce one thing and then drip feed information to the press that they'll likely do a u-turn. They're absolutley feckin uselss. It doesn't really matter one way or the other what they do as long as it can be justified, but for god's sake I wish they'd think things through and communicate the rules clearly and authoritatively. No wonder people are confused and some just ignore them.
