I'm particularly intrigued by the suggestion that he may pardon himself before leaving office* - but for what? I'm pretty certain you cannot be pardoned for something of which you have not yet been convicted. Plus it would be a tacit admission of guilt.

With Ford's pardon of Nixon in 1974, it carried an implication of guilt and the latter had to put out a statement admitting fault and regret. Can you imagine Trump doing that?

These attempts to undermine and subvert democracy should be very troubling. It's amazing what Trump has been able to normalise over the past 4 years.
As a friend of mine said four years ago, Trump should not be thought of as a modern democratic leader, but more in terms of the old-fashioned stereotype of an oriental potentate. His whim being law and no regard for (or even understanding of) democratic norms, except where they serve his own purposes.
To say that Trump is like a spoilt 4 year old who has been told he can't have a second ice cream is to insult the vast majority of 4 year olds and their parents - and grandparents!
