Or should we play our strongest line up against an excellent Portsmouth side?

We should go for it in this competition, winning breeds confidence.

Excellent? Didn’t realise Pompey are a top four PL.

It’ll be a match between two better-than-average teams (by L1 standards) resting their better players.

I think this season the schedule is so tight, and can get worse if there are any Covid cancellations in the future that this is just a game to rest everyone you can.

If you look at using the majority of the 7 subs from Tuesday, plus a couple of senior players you can put a decent team out

Bar Sears, who could swap for Lankester, all those guys probably need a game, and it's still a strong enough team

Why rest players? I don't get it. The league is a priority but any competition you win in breeds confidence. There is always a risk of injuries but weigh that up against confidence and I think we should go for it.

In fairness, that's not a bad team actually. I don't agree that we should rest players but that's a good team and shows we have some depth.

I think you'll find they're one of the biggest teams in Europe.

We might see McGuiness as he’s definitely not playing on Tuesday! We might be a bit stronger than we’re expecting with next Saturday off now. We’ll definitely see some changes especially in midfield as I don’t expect Bishop or Judge to start. We will see a very very young side at Crawley on Tuesday.

As they're the Biggest Club South Of London we should just hand them a bye and save everyone some time.

I think we should play the entire B-Team, to give them some match practice and to see if anyone of them has potential to step up at a moment's injury in the A-Team.

Agree with this, but I would start Simpson with Jackson an option from the bench.

Bennetts, Dobra and Huws (along with Simpson) would all benefit from 90 minutes in the first team.

I had also wondered if McGavin could get any game time, with Nolan playing more advanced and Dobra wide right.

If we play our strongest team I expect us to be too strong at home for Pompey. I'm sorry I don't get it. 2 weeks until our next meaningful game. We must field our strongest side.

Rest players . Dare I say as forever the optimist , we've more chance winning promotion than winning the FA Cup so why risk any more long term injuries ?

As for winning breeds confidence , I'd rather have a fully fit set of 11 players starting every league game than concentrating on any cup game and trying to get some "confidence" whilst we're still in this awful league

with how small our squad is and how important certain players are to us, i'd rest bishop, edwards, etc

Rest players if they need it but wouldn't make wholesale changes. I think our bad run last year started after we had a group of cup games together and the first team didn't play for ages. It'll be a gap of 2 weeks after Portsmouth assuming a young/reserve team will play Crawley so why not keep building things with the first team?

Holy
Chambers - Woolfenden - McGuinness - Ward
Huws - Nolan - Judge
Lankester - Jackson - Edwards

Then against Crawley:

Cornell
Donacien - Wilson - Nsiala - Kenlock
McGavin - Dozzell - Gibbs
Sears - Hawkins - Bennetts

Possibly risk Bishop against Portsmouth instead of Judge but, with Dozzell out for Shrewsbury and Hull we'll need to make sure we keep him fit.

Woolfenden will not be playing that is for sure as he will only be part way through his isolation.

With the new Covid restrictions are the youths even allowed to train so guess we have to put out reasonably strong sides in both games.
