Is now a proposal by the Daily Mail and Tory MP Daniel Kawczynski on Twitter. They're acting like it's a game of Call of Duty ffs.

I think we should offer free penis enlargements to anyone suggesting this as a serious option - they clearly need it.

Got to protect that 0.1% of GDP or whatever fishing amounts to.

Nationalistic idiots.

I wonder if all the nationalistic tweets about fishing have cost more in energy costs than the revenues that fishing actually brings into the UK.

I'll leave someone else to work it out and look back later.

Is he, personally, going to stand on deck and order them to shoot? Would he still be there if French ships shoot back?

Read something that puts it al into context, if the government invested the £2bn they put into an excel based failed track and trace system into fishing, they’d cover the GDP contribution for 49 years.

Also that MP for Shrewsbury failed to turn up for the parliamentary debate about the maternity hospital scandal in his own constituency this week, obviously has his priorities sorted.

I really hope we do impound a french fishing boat. the rest of their fleet will blockade their ports within minutes, and their farmer mates will blockade Eurotunnel in a sign of solidarity!

Presumably the French fishing fleets, that we patriotically sold our fishing quotas to, would be able to file a complaint with the WTO if we don't honour those deals?

And people like Daniel Kawczynski would of course respect the ruling, because WTO rules are what they want...right?

Edit: Removed the word idiots, because any background reading about DK shows he's acting in bad faith rather than out of idiocy.

Quite honestly I replied a lengthy reply but I don’t want to get in to a debate.

Equally sad, desperate and dangerous isn’t. Thoroughly embarrassing really given this is all playing out on an international stage.

I assume we’re going to fire scotch eggs at them as there’s has apparently been a massive spike in demand after a ridiculous debate about whether they’re ‘substantial’ or not.
Meanwhile back in reality, more Brits have died of Covid this year than were killed by the Luftwaffe yet that’s apparently not something we should hold our politicians to account for.
What on earth has this country become since the recent high of 2012??

If you think Daniel Kawczynski actually cares about the people affected then I suspect you might be disappointed.

These people have been desperate for the EU to treat us like a third country for however many years, and now the EU is actually getting bored with our nonsense, not affording us special treatment anymore, and actually treating us like a third party, these people are going to lose it pretty quickly.

Could get really messy because it will be very difficult for Boris to try and reign them in when he's literally ridden to power on the back of egging them on for 20 years.

I agree with your sentiments, regarding people and their livelihoods. My wife used to live in Hull when it was a very vibrant fishing port, if you have visited there in the last 20-25 years you would see how it has become without all the fishing that was on a massive scale before. I heard recently that for every job at sea it creates 10 ashore related to fishing. I for one will be happy that there is no super trawlers electric stunning the fish and hoovering up all around. Hopefully it will allow the fish stocks to replenish.
Brexit is bad for everyone in some way, but there will always be some good as well.

If you think Brexit will stop industrial fishing and revitalise fishing towns then you are very much mistaken. Just as you are on most things.

Yes, but mine are based in fact and reality. Yours is based on what your wife reckons about Hull.

My dad and grandad were both Lowestoft trawlermen and I don't think they will be taking Annabelle out to sea any time soon. Why? Because the Tories sold our fishing quotas to European fishing companies.

But if you want to believe what uncle Nige and some bloke down the pub reckons, then good for you.

It was a fair point, well argued.

I think fishing is the one area where we may have a genuine grievance with the EU, which is why brexiteers are so utterly obsessed by it.

The problem is, the industry is being used by Boris et al as a useful pawn, they wouldn’t piss on a working class fisherman if they were on fire.

Needless to say, the number of livelihoods likely to be decimated by a no deal Brexit absolutely dwarfs the number involved in fishing, which I think was stokie’s point. He wasn’t trying to be dismissive of the individual suffering of fishermen and their communities, but governments need to act in the interests of the country as a whole.

Sorry you did that all on your own, check your facts or go to Hull and see for yourself and speak to a few people there and see if they agree with you. Ask yourself why the red wall collapsed while you are at it.
As I said earlier about opinions, everyone has one. I will respect yours, just be kinder to people that differ from yours, that's what makes a democracy.
