Phil said he was the 17th manager but club says 18th? Not that it's really important.

Probably means he has earn promotion by then or he’s gone

Might tie in with what others have suggested in that the new consortium may be looking to appoint managers on short-term deals in order to achieve very specific goals.

i.e. Cook may have simply been brought in to achieve promotion from League One, at which point a new man might be brought in to steer us through the Championship.

The American owners not quite so prepared to hand out long term contracts?

Imagine Evans has now learned that gigantic contracts are not the way to go.

Although bit of a late lesson given it looks like he's leaving anyway.

EDIT: Or as others have said, length driven by consortium.

As long as PL has been here so longer than Keane, Jewell and Hurst.

2.5 seasons seems sensible considering Evans has just been burnt by the Lamburke contract.

With Cook wanting a long term gig I imagine assurances have been given for future extensions

Everyone rightly moaned about a 5 year contract so it seems completely sensible.

I make him 18th (permanent, since May 1936) as well: O'Brien, S Duncan, Ramsey, Milburn, McGarry, Robson, Ferguson, J Duncan, Lyall, Burley, Royle, Magilton, Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst, Lambert, Cook.

A list that by all rights should only have 14 but for all our recent blunders!

Very very happy with that, finally a solid manager with a proven record!!

Should easily propel us into the playoffs and possibly even challenge for automatics this season.

I'm bloody delighted by this. Cook has been my preferred choice for a long time.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
