Fans not being in the grounds has let these players off the hook 08:53 - Apr 21 with 1207 viewsRegencyBlue

Can you imagine the grief they would be getting normally?

Most of them know they will not be here next season and as a result have effectively downed tools safe in the knowledge that fans are not there to express what they feel about that.

They clearly have no professional pride and are just going through the motions. It’s often said as an insult that players are not fit to wear the shirt but the vast majority of this group most definitely are not!

It's strange how by having no fans in has affected teams, a mate of mine is a West Ham fan and he thinks the reason behind their success is the fact that there have been no fans in, as normally after a few minutes he says the fans start moaning and groaning and getting on the players backs, equally you could say Liverpool have struggled without a full Anfield.

Yep, 100%.

Some of the comments coming out from posters here and other places are the most amazing for me though. How many managers, do we want to blame until we realise that Evans broke us to a degree that can't be fixed in quarter of a season.

And how many managers do we want to blame before we start to realise that it might also be the players?

Spot on. I think the players have been let off loosely for a few years now, they were applauded off when we got relegated, it was accepted when we finished 11th last season.

Ultimately, they’re the ones on the pitch, they’re the ones responsible for churning out this shït, time after time.

Brilliant points in this thread. I've read elsewhere they are scared.

Scared of what? This will be the cushiest season of their lives in empty stadiums and, for the most part, hidden behind a manager who kept saying they were brilliant when they were useless.

Oh I'm sorry buttercup, did that nasty Mr Cook point out you aren't very good? Run yourself a warm bath, I'll get the Haagen-Daaz and read you a story later.

The ice cream is for afterwards. Hopefully I've got exactly the right flavour or there will be more tears before bedtime.

Not convinced about the contrast between hot bath and cold ice cream...I'm thinking hot chocolate (with marshmallows, obv) or a warm milk following the bath. Just keep that comfort/warmth at the max.

I should be sacked from bathtime duties and somebody else given the job. I see it now

They'll have plenty of time to mull over their lack of effort next year, when most of them will be flipping burgers at Wimpy.

Well the "toxic atmosphere" excuse that Evans and his managers trotted out year on year as a reason we haven't delivered can't be applied anymore for the fact the players aren't up to it.

It was nonsense anyway, a toxic atmosphere at Portman Road is fart in a jacuzzi stuff, regular moaners at players are more likely to get digs from fellow fans rather than have masses join in. I think that's sometimes been partly the problem. It has been too easy for this lot. We clapped relegation ffs.

It did start to get a bit nasty towards the end of last season when it was clear that we were putting in token efforts, there was no direction, the football was rubbish and players were either getting themselves sent off or becoming injured. But aside from that, it was tame compared to any other club in our position.

They had been clapped and cheered by SBR for the relegation and subsequently labelled as one of the best squads in League One by some.

Some of our fans would still have clapped them last night at Northampton.

No one is asking for it to be put right overnight - not going backwards would have been sufficient. Mid table form would have kept us in the play off picture.

I’ve said this in a thousand threads because the important thing is we seem to have to have a thousand threads saying the players don’t care rather than just using the ones in place, as though bludgeoning it will make it true rather than accepting it’s far more complex than that and Cook isn’t completely innocent in our decline either.

Cook will get the summer, he’ll build his own squad, let’s hope it works. But another manager would have got more out of the players he has at his disposal. He’s the right manager at the wrong time and we can only hope that that changes to right and right for the summer.

Fans not being in the grounds kept Lambert in a job a year longer than he got.

Fans being IN the ground got Lambert a five year contract he didn't deserve.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

How is Evan's to blame that our players, professional players, not pub team players, cant even short pass the ball to one another under no pressure anymore ? that was shocking for an amateur let alone someone paid to play the game for a living.

We always make excuses for the players it's never their fault, they are too young whilst in their twenties whilst their contemporaries play in champions league games or not experienced enough even after several seasons at a professional level, under too much pressure to perform, not enough pressure to perform, trained too hard, not trained enough etc etc

They get an easy ride because fans dont like to face up to the fact some of these players just arent good enough or making the effort, and that's on the players, not the manager, not the former owner, the players

And totally right if the fans were in the ground for some of these performances theyd have been some honest truths expressed loudly about it
