Good little thread on it here. I wonder if we can move away from adidas' cookie cutter offerings to hummel and get something smart?

The Coventry two-tone last season and this shows they could do good things with touches unique to us etc.

Got a very 80's Everton vibe I'd say.

Oldham were a team half full of Evertonian reserves / sold cheaply or released at one point... BFJ got good results out of them.

It gets the thumbs up from me. Similar to the kit they wore around 1993. Shirts look 100x better with no sponsor.

Now we are in the final year of the Adidas deal I'd like to see us get away from the templates and move to a bespoke kit maker. Macron or Hummel fit the bill.

Glorious, but have they bought Sheffield Wednesday’s old badge off them?

Macron and joma are both massively improved in those aspects, I quite like this move to retro kits over those jazzy monstrosities Chelsea Etc have had. They don’t even stop the fakes anyway

A Hummel remake of this, I think. Very nice though.

We’ve just ordered new kit for the second team at Ipswich Wanderers - AFC Wanderers, as we’re sponsoring them, and there were a few hummel ones they were deciding between… this is the one they went with…

Exactly. All these manufactures use templates, that Oldham kit is no different from the Rangers shirt from the 19/20 season.

I think the love for Hummel is nostalgic, with two of the most iconic designs of the 80's - Denmark '86 & Spurs '85. Even then those designs were not exclusive - in England, Southampton, Coventy & Villa all used the half & half design.

I believe the only Adidas kit we have had that was unique, was the the '84-86 design, which was similar to the France shirts but significantly different as to not be regarded a template.

I know with 90's gear being kool again, there's a bit of clamour for louder kits, I know people are calling for the old 'Ipswich' Adidas template to be brought back, despite the name, we never wore the Ipswich template ourselves

Famously worn by the Dutch

By template, you mean collar shape, number of stripes etc. But do all the manufacturers offer unique fabrics to the same extent?
That Rangers kit you mention (like many others) used a fabric that was specific to the club. The Town away kit of last season looked much more obviously like 'here's-the-catalogue, bung-a-badge-on-it' than, say, the Colchester home kit, where the whole of the front of the shirt is the club's crest.

The technology has very much moved on with custom shirts, it's becoming more common even in amateur sports nowadays so it's something that could happen

I suspect the club like the prestige of Adidas as much as anything

Phoenix Rising did actually use Macron themselves but have now moved over to Adidas

So (so far) Adidas have completely refrained from using customised fabrics?

Town's away kit was in the Adidas catalogue at half the price, just minus the badge and sponsor.

There were at least three other professional teams wearing exactly the same kit. Dinamo Zagreb was one.

Prepare for Town's away kit to be a catalogue number as every one we've had so far has been.
