Col U and Covid 10:04 - Aug 2 with 4631 views | EdwardF | Despite being fully vaccinated, I have tested positive after the Col U match. As i WFH and never visited any other place in the 3 day period preceeding or after the match, pretty certain of the source. My wife tested negative. Anybody else reporting post match infection?

Ooof that sucks but nobody said the vaccine would stop you catching covid but it should lessen the symptoms and prevent you passing it on. Hope your symptoms aren’t too bad. I’m currently isolating until Wednesday as I was pinged last week due to my son’s girlfriend who was with us in the car last weekend testing positive

Yes but only for some of the time. The key point I have taken away, is to remain vigilant and exercise caution. I now regret not keeping my mask on for the duration of the event

The fault lies with all those who came to that game and didn't wear a mask.

My infection has definitely made me think about the coming season. I'm seriously considering moving my ST to an area of the ground where there are still plenty of empty seats and where, technically, I can sit apart from other fans. Of course, if the season takes off, then 'less popular' areas could still fill up with non ST fans. There's one thing for sure: I would not feel safe being in the SBR stand lower.

May I ask, what has made you change your mind? What was your thinking about the Covid risk before the Col U game and what's changed your mind?

Before attending the Col U match my thinking was: 1. I have been double jabbed - so trust the science 2. The event is outdoors and my seat is at the end of the row at the end of the seating 3. I should, therefore, be Ok What's changed my mind is that point 3 didn't hold true and I contracted Covid

Your story has made me extremely apprehensive about this coming Saturday, as I am in SBR Lower at the front in the middle of section 5. My husband has a ticket too there for this match, and it's too late to change to another part of the ground. Also moving to another stand would cost more?

Thanks for the reply. On point 1, were you under the impression that being vaccinated meant you couldn't catch Covid?

No i knew it was still possible to contract, what the scientists were calling, a breakthrough infection. However, the numbers were (and still are) still on the side of non-contraction so the majority of the fully vaccinated can still be exposed to the virus but not go on to become infected. I am told, however, that the probaility of infection rises with one's exposure to a high 'virus load' togther with other know risk factors such as age and a compromised immunity system

I'm still back and forwards about coming this Saturday. Mrs G is fully in remission from cancer, but there is still that niggling doubt about what it could do to someone even 9 months+ on. The NHS have said she is ok and can do anything and everything, but also have said they will class her as clinically vulnerable for 2 years. Confusing... I think i'll end up leaving it for a month and see how cases fall.

If there is a desperation to get to the game - I'd just pick a seat in the top corener of the West Stand where you'll only really encounter people in an indoor setting whilst walking up the stairs to your seat - and either leaves 5 mins before the whistle or 5 mins after so not caught in the throng on the exits

SAR would be the same price and probably less busy than a sold out SBR lower

I’m sure the club would be accommodating when it comes to moving the tickets, Cobbold Stand block A is always an empty bloke and less busy getting in and out.

"and prevent you passing it on." Not sure where that comes from. It may reduce the likelihood of passing it on because the viral load you would expose someone else to (assuming your other precautions remain at the same level - distancing and mask wearing etc). It won't prevent you spreading it at all. Indeed, if it creates the confidence that many seem to be expressing, it will probably increase the likelihood that you will.

I have just spoken to the ticket office and moved our seats in the middle of the SBR Lower to the Sir Alf stand. Ticket office were really helpful as I also wanted 2 more tickets for family. Took ages to get through but they were brilliant!

That it likely increases your chances of spreading it. OK. Didn't read like that but fair enough.
