They started the 17/18 season abysmally, losing 3 in 4, they rallied a little, but then spent the middle of the season mid table.. before a great Jan/Feb run of games got them into the play-offs.. where they won and secured promotion.
Its a simple message isn't it, patience needed - O'Leary, Ashton and the American have pleaded for the same.
Now its right to question Cook, I am still not 100% convinced technically/tactically by Cook, but I've actually been at recent games and seen improvement. I'm on the border of whether if its enough.. I am really am. But look at the above and tell me time and patience aren't a factor here.
But people seem to be merging impatience and well founded desire to succeed after 10 years of sh!te under Marcus into low tolerance for Cook.

For every football story where patience paid off, there's another story where patience just dug a deeper hole. Compare Lambert and Warne, for instance. Lambert's first 50 games undoubtedly went better than Warne's did, but were we right to show patience with him? Absolutely not.

warne's style of football is machine-tooled for league one.

Warne hasn’t really had the same scenario either. They had loads of fixture congestion due to Covid so arguably were unlucky to back here weren’t they?

It took Tuchal a couple of games to improve Chelsea not 5 years. It’s what a good coach does - takes what he has and improves it. Cook took what he had last season (not much admittedly) and made them worse. He’s now getting less out of his squad than he should be. | |

Yes of course we sneered at them because they played such a horrible style under Warnock
Remember that game in 2016 when they beat us at PR and they were so bad and draconian, but we were even worse in a game so dire that it was like inserting hot needles into your eye balls… you probably thought it was a joy and masterclass
Oh and Ipswich were booed off the pitch despite being 7th in the championship
But under Warne they play a much improved style where they mix passing, breaking the lines and longer ball. Good to watch.

Surely the caretaker Charlton manager that everyone should be referencing… I look at that and think maybe cook isn’t the one… but wasn’t at the club for a long time, as had much of the team

Burley was a novice manager with 20 games under his belt who inherited a doomed side that were tipped to drop through the divisions ala Swindon and turned them into outside candidates for the playoffs and top goalscorers in one season on a shoestring budget though. And proceeded to to build progressively better sides despite having to sell his best players every summer.
Cook was a manager with getting on for 700 games as a manager under his belt who inherited a side that was a couple of points off the playoffs, took them into mid table, blamed them for it after about 4 games, binned them all off and is now doing the same with a side assembled in a budget that wouldn't look bad a division higher.
Patience with mangers is all very well if they're the RIGHT manager.
