Goal just knocked it out of us 18:07 - Jan 29 with 2105 viewsMullet

Big away end, proper ground and a poor mistake allowed them an easy and early lead. Never felt like we believed after that, in the ground or on the pitch. Edmundson is a great talent but he’s dipped lately, you really notice it when a player like that is off.

A real opportunity missed is how it feels as the lack of quality/ strength / understanding wasn’t just resigned to the makeshift central midfield. Nothing stuck up top and no one really fancied a crack at goal it seemed.

McKenna is a real breath of fresh air and I’ll always take winning over all other conditions, especially in this league, but he does have us playing attractive football. When it doesn’t materialise like today, it’s very noticeable.

Feels like it’s a high bar and big ask to make 6th so when you produce poor performances like this and Bolton it’s much more striking. I really wish we had better set pieces or the desire to cross early today. It felt like that was the biggest reason we failed to land anything. Too many more toothless performances and we start planning for next season don’t we?

Could be 11pts adrift after Oxford’s game in hand.

I think planning for next season down here is prudent sadly

This team refuses to cross when in good positions, it’s extremely frustrating at times. I understand we’re looking for openings to drive into the box but when they aren’t there our attacks just completely fizzle out. Just wish we’d take a bit more risks when in the final 3rd and not only look for the perfect opportunity.

Set pieces are dreadful. Corners just don't generate excitement or anticipation in me anymore.

It's hard to be positive when you get a result like that then look around and see what everyone else has done then look at the games played column.

Realistically we're trying to sneak into 6th place which is a sorry state and a Paddington Hard Stare at Cook for ballsing us up so badly it's got to this point.

Not impossible if we take a good haul from what's a fairly comfy looking February but after that will be the time to assess again.

Good that McKenna can recognise where the promising bits are but also that they're surrounded by poor parts that undermine us right now and everything about him conjures confidence that he can solve what he above anyone can see as the problem.

We'll put in a duff performance and lose again. Course we will, it's the game. But we've spent too long this season titting about trying to work out the best combinations between all these shiny players like an unimaginative kid in a Lego warehouse that, whatever happens, it will probably be until McKenna has a chance to restructure and streamline his project that we see the best of what he has to offer.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

As it stands, we're much of muchness quality wise with everyone else around us and above us. So we'll continue to split the difference and win or lose by fine margins to teams like Wednesday/Accrington/Wycombe, beat a lot of also rans but also mix in the odd absolute stuff up to teams like Bolton. We'll probably continue accumulating points at roughly the same rate as the Top 6 and finish well off it.

Our final shot at the dart board is winning the next 2, then getting Morsy back and collectively finding another level.

Essentially we overplay our passing every single game . Opponents just sit back and wait for us to cross the half way line ( very Paul Lambertish isn’t it )… and we continue to gift soft goals to not particularly good opponents, usually when we’re poncing around with back and forth across the edge of our area .

Our pace and build up play is one dimensional and too slow by far and we even know what’ll happen next just watch our team so the opposition sure as hell does! Absolutely ZERO threat of presence on the oppositions box and Wednesday weren’t actually very good - we literally GIFTED them those points today.

Is this the same Morsy who many think is hugely overrated and don’t understand why Cook made all the fuss about him? Cue the comments, ‘I don’t think anyone has actually said that?!’ When in fact it’s been said after most games he’s played for us this season.

He clearly is a good player and in his absence we’ll see that, but he can’t do it on his own. Unfortunately, we haven’t got the collective resilience to be a real threat in this league. Top 10- yes, top 6 - no.

We miss Morsey and to some extent Evans.

Really needed Morsey today with his bite in mid-field. He always tries to push the team forward but today we were just content to kick the ball back to Walton which put us in danger.

We were lucky that Wednesday only scored one as they had a couple of one on ones with Walton but misfired shots.

Another problem is that even when we cross, we tend to do it blind so that we rarely find one of our own players.

Agree to an extent, think the first goal is important, especially away from home, where we have struggled all season. There have been some good performances away from home, but we rarely seem to be able to turn it around after conceding. Albeit Edmundson lost the ball on the touchline, Burns let his man run past him from 5 yards behind him to score the goal unchallenged.

It was definitely a poor day at the office, we gave away too many chances to say the defence played well, and likewise didn't create enough going forward to say the front three worked.

In all honesty think we got out thought tactically by Darren Moore and should have changed system earlier than we did. Sheff Wed are a decent team, but we made them look better than they are.

The midfield would have been better with Morsy or Evans in there. but unfortunately that is where we are for the next couple of games.

Time for a tweak? Edmundson not looking as good when pulled into wide areas, maybe better in a 4 or in the middle of a 3?

Yes. We are still too laboured in getting forward. Burns had an off day but SW had a hand in that, forcing everything out to our left.
The goal was totally against the run of play and was hard to take, and we never really recovered.
New left back was a plus. Not much else to be pleased about, but our away support was good as usual.
Except too many anti home ground/location/support chants instead of pro Ipswich chants.

Burns game relies on being faster than the opposing full/wing back. He did nothing in the home game against Wednesday either when up against Johnson.

It was always going to be a tough task for McKenna to get us in the play-offs. Ultimately, he's accumulated 2 points per game and we are further off than when Cook was sacked. If he carries on at that rate and if we finish on 75 points, he has done a good job, regardless of whether we get in the play offs or not - it is increasingly looking like that won't be enough. People need to make peace with that I think. We are paying for PC starting the season so poorly.

Pretty much this. Huge percentage of possession, very little end result.

When we click, we look excellent, but it’s few and far between.

Yes, the automatic slagging off of the home town/support is really juvenile playground taunting isn't it? Last week 130 Accrington fans were singing, 'you're just a bus stop in Norwich'. Every teams fans seem to do it and it's just embarrassing.

I would play Edmunson Central, Woolf on right and Janoi on left of the three (he has played left back so should be more comfortable if he gets drawn out there). Only problem is, Janoi and Burns seem to be pretty effective on right to me.
