Assuming LB confession is true and an innocent man hass been convicted, it does rather destroy the argument for capital punishment. Some will argue for it for child killers, police killers.
But miscarriages of justice happen and will happen again. Even when the evidence is strong enough for a jury, sometimes they get it wrong, with or without dodgy policing. (Am not insinuating anything here btw) [Post edited 6 Feb 2022 15:37]

We have to wait on this one won't we. Feels lime Bellfield almost enjoys the notoriety these days.
It must be v hard for the victims families having it all dragged up again, makes you Hope it is true really and that they can finally have true closure and that they donr end up having it dragged up for nothing but attention seeking.

23 years that Stone would likely have spent in prison anyway as opposed to with his friends and family if his record is anything to go by.

It is only the clueless, brain dead fckwits who call for the return of capital punishment. it is never the judiciary, or police calling for this
They know that the acceptance of a plea of manslaughter would almost end, and those charged would opt for a change of murder instead. With the knowledge that no conviction would get past a UK jury. Too many false convictions have left an awful unease. No juror would risk having an innocent persons death on their conscience for life.
Lawyers are not interested in the truth per se. They are interested in winning. That's what gets them work, more pay. So if you think they would not play on the jury, then you are a naive.
Do you believe what Bellfield is claiming ? You may. We would now be in a position where not believing him would mean Stone would be hanged (theoretically). Is there anyone you know who, as a juror, might shy aware from being responsible for someone's death ?
There is also the no small matter of an appeal. Many of them, stretching over years, as in the US. Odd that in the US with capital punishment there has been no let up in the murder rate, yet in civilised Western countries without capital punishment murder is considerably lower.
Maybe there is something in how society is organised. Perhaps it is a bit more complicated than what your knee jerking tells you. Why in affluent Switzerland is the rate very low, yet in the impoverished slums of the US it is incredibly high ?
You would have to be really thick to not grasp there is some correlation between environment/upbringing and behaviour.
