I hate wet liberal limp weakness when it comes to punishment. Five divisions???? Pah! 20 divisions for each year of his ownership, ground turned over for starter homes, training ground flogged off (in Cobham, worth millions) etc etc, youth teams disbanded by Easter, trophies sent for the melt. I remember Chelsea from the days of broken down stadium with running track, barbed wire and broken bricks, 10k crowds. A no mark club. It’s long overdue that their self entitlement was punctured.

Ok - you don't like Abramovich. But why stop at him? Most of the Premier League clubs are funded by either dubious entrepreneurs or foreign states or both.

Ok I’m just piling in for the fun of it and you are quite right. The PL is a bit of a Pandora’s box for that isn’t it. I don’t know Abramovich and however you view his motives and money, he’s certainly done well for Chelsea. Can’t wait to wind up my Chelsea following chum - he predates the good times so is ‘proper’, but it won’t save him 😃
Abramovich just gave up control of Chelsea. Sort of on 20:03 - Feb 26 with 2266 views | Mullet | It would be nice to think this was the start of some sort of clean up in many areas of society, but I suspect he's seen the public outrage and thought this would put him a step ahead of more serious losses.

Exactly. It shouldn’t be a question of stopping with him but starting with him, and then cleaning up the rest of British football. Though of course that won’t happen. But the other point is that his mate from whom he’s been allowed to make his billions has just invaded Ukraine. Surely that’s reason enough to sanction him as hard as possible? Though, again, not with this Government which has also benefited big time from dirty Russian money.

I believe it is 14 cabinet members with clear and direct links to Russian funding being reported. That is scandalous, as it cast so much more doubt about a sorry government already seen as having their noses in the trough.

If Abramovich technically no longer controls Chelsea, how can control of the club then be wrested from him by the government?

How many clubs do we need demoting before we end up in the Premier League? That would do.

Yep empty words and no real change. Millionaires funded by money stolen from the Russian people. Stinks and always done.

Yep, and the so-called trustees of the charitable foundation who are taking over decisions are led by, er, people on the board of the football club. It is as if Gamechanger stepped back from ITFC but left it in control of Mark Ashton, albeit wearing his ITCT hat...

Good grief man this isn’t a game! You might care to reflect on your “for the fun of it” type of comments. A country has been invaded - innocent people are being killed. I suggest you read “Putin’s People” then perhaps you will understand. Abramovich should not be welcome in the UK.

Football is too far gone now and has been for a while - it's riddled with hypocrisy, as to be fair are many aspects of society. I suspect the Chelsea players will be 'showing solidarity' later today before the Cup final whilst their owner and ally of Putin refuses to condemn his actions. The obvious problem only becomes a problem when it is staring you right in the face, as it is now. There were mumblings about Abramovich's suitability to own a club when he took over but it was all swept under the carpet. Only a couple of months ago, the Saudi state taking over Newcastle was allowed. That will come back to bite at some point too inevitably.
