Next one of our squad to play in the Premier League? 15:16 - May 7 with 3359 views | wrightsrightglove | Who do we think will be the first member of our current squad to make a premier league appearance (other than the first player out of the tunnel in a few years time when we’re back where we belong obvs)? Wolfie for me, I think he’s going to continue to flourish under McKenna and I can see an offer from a lower end PL team within the next couple of years and I think he’ll want the opportunity. Any other thoughts?

Next one of our squad to play in the Premier League? on 15:23 - May 7 with 2862 views | jayessess | Woolfenden and Edmundson are the obvious candidates. They have the right mix of abilities for a PL centre half and are roughly the right age (although George will have to get a move on). Our other standout players are either too old (Donacien, Morsy, Burns) or hit a ceiling in the Championship (Chaplin, Walton). Other than that, I'd put Edwards down as a wildcard because if it clicks for him, interest will skyrocket. Then it's kids really, a good season from Humphreys or Baggott and suddenly there's interest a lot higher just because of their age. Or, is it... Tyreece Simpson?

You may well be right, but if I were to take a punt it would be Woolfie for me. He may not in the end make it, but he has the type of attributes, especially ability on the ball, that seem to be favoured these days in the case of defenders. And as a long-shot, Baggott, for similar reasons. The rest of our players just aren't technically good enough, or in the case of Aluko too old, or Celina not effective enough. In this connection, it is probably Walton's ability on the ball that counts against him, however good he is as a shot-saver. [Post edited 7 May 2022 16:15]

Unfortunately some of our lot have a rather over optimistic belief in our players. Did we not have the best squad in the league in 20/21 ? This season we were again supposed to be so strong that we would pss the league Two of our own who were set for the PL we were told are currently languishing mid able in the CHs - Downes&Dozell

maybe, who thought hourihane or matt clarke would get there, who pegged chalobah as a regular starter for a top 3 side? james bree could be there next year with luton... of this year's players, thompson's the most likely. of our contracted players, walton

Downes and Dozzell are hardly languishing. Flynn's been hyped up in the media over here in Leeds that he may well be a player they target this summer.

We have a decent squad for sure, obviously where we lacked was upfront McKenna really needs to land the strikers who will suit his system My slight concern with McKenna was at Man United, whilst he was first team coach, it's not something they ever really nailed themselves and McKenna may have been part of that

Next one of our squad to play in the Premier League? on 09:15 - May 8 with 2088 views | Dubtractor | Woolfenden. If he follows up the second half of this season with more of the same next season, then he'll definitely have teams sniffing round. Whether that is lower half premier league teams, or top end championship, is another question but he's the most likely candidate in my opinion.

Quite hard to judge. There were several players who weren’t obvious standouts last time we went up. I don’t see many currently who’d be interesting PL sides, but if they develop together and we ultimately make it back to the PL then possibly a few could make it. A LOT of work to do before then though of course. In terms of players PL clubs might be interested in, Woolfie is the obvious one for me.

12 goals and 6 assists (from strikers who largely couldn’t hit a proverbial cow’s arse) not bad for a wing back is it?

Of course it's a pretty wild long shot for everyone in L1, but I think the certainty in ruling it out is a bit misplaced. There's plenty of players who graduate from L1 to the Premier League. Adam Webster, Ivan Toney, Rico Henry, Lewis Dunk, Adam Lallana, Stuart Dallas, Adam Forshaw, Luke Ayling, amongst some of the current ones. By no means all of them were wonderkids, who just played a few games down there and got a big move.

If he was 21, he'd be in with a shout, at 27 no chance.

He would have to continue improving.. But if we got promoted and he had a decent season or two in Chanp'.. It wouldn't surprise me at all, if he got linked to a Prem' club... I'd say he has "the potential".... Lets be honest, if Maguire , is a regular 1st teamer at UTD.?..

Absolutely. The Swans team that went up were stuffed full of players who joined them in L2 and L1. We plucked Mings from nowhere. Walters was plying his trade in L2 when we snapped him up (albeit he’d already played in the PL briefly as a youngster). Loads of players do so. Last year I’d imagine Sheff Utd had several players who’d been with them since L1. All very possible.

Looking very likely that Flynn Downes will be a Premier League player sooner or later, and he left us aged 22 after a very underwhelming season in League One.

Exactly. There’s a bit of a myth surrounding Premier League players as if they are Demi-gods. Yes there are some outstanding, even world class players in there, but also some fairly ordinary players that have lucked out. Maguire and Dier seem good examples. I’d rather have Donacien and Woolf over those two.
