3 year deal for Humphries 15:00 - Jun 8 with 2999 viewsSTYG

Great news.

Also tends to suggest we've got big plans for him this season, otherwise it would be the usual year or two with an option etc.

Three years for a player yet to break into the first team must be recognition of the fact he's really expected to be a big part of the squad and not something I'd imagine the current regime would be doing if likely to be loaned out.

Kid looks easily the best of what we have coming through.

Love that. Do you reckon he's being lined up to compete for the LWB role.

If he doesn't make it in football, he could make a living as an impersonator of Rodney from Only Fools & Horses...

Could well be. Certainly a position he was used at in training under Cook (that and LB).

Hope so. He’s looked one of the most complete players we’ve produced in a while. And his mental game and stamina look top-notch.

He covers about 4 or 5 positions too. The whole left flank, central midfield and possibly even as a number 10. He’s a shoo-in on the bench – which might be the perfect way of keeping him fully involved without risking burn out.

He has broken into the first team, he played against Charlton, as a sub, both games.

I suspect that this is no more than us protecting an asset. He is clearly highly regarded but did look a little bit lightweight against Charlton. I cannot see him being a regular starter for us next season, more one for the future.

Wonder if anyone that owner a Humphries official home shirt will stick it on eBay now?

Playing wide he can be a little light he will soon fill out I remember Dyers debut he also was a little light, I'm sure he will adapt very quickly I believe he will get quite a few starts but also will get rested when required. Age is only a number Maradona was playing for Argentina at 16 its ability that counts

I expect we'll see where he's at in pre-season. I hope there's some scope for him to be semi-regularly involved.

Who else is going to compete for the troublesome LWB role? Penney? KVY? Edwards? Ndaba? Burns? Now Humphreys? Anybody who can kick a ball with their left foot seems to be lined up.
My guess is we're looking outside the club for the next LWB .

Being serious - good news and he could be a handy, versatile player for us next year.

I could see him being on the bench, covering a few positions, but not a regular starter. He is only 18 and has a lot of physical development ahead of him before he is ready for regular L1 football.

It looks as if Humphreys has leap-frogged the likes of El Mizouni & Dobra in the pecking order, which makes their futures at PR look even more uncertian, but that's how football works - if you're good enough, you get your chance & hopefully take it.

This is good news. It seems we have changed our policy of keeping a lot of academy products around in the hope that they might make it, but rarely do. Now the focus seems to be to narrow them down to the real top performers and release the rest. Clear, decisive thinking again from those in charge.

Maradona is one of the three or four greatest outfield players of all time.

If Humphreys becomes a Championship regular we'll have beaten the odds.

I thought he looked good when he came on against Charlton at Portman Road.
His ball through for Norwood's goal was extremely well executed.

I’m quite stoned, so that took me a while to read. If he’s any where near Dyer, nevermind Maradona levels- then I’d be pretty happy! Like said earlier on the thread, I like we’re concentrating on a few youngsters than en masse flocks of academy kids that don’t make it.

It was a good cameo appearance and as you say a great pass to Norwood for the fourth goal.

He is still a young man, 18, and lacking the physicality needed to play at this level.

He is no Dom Ball.

A friend of ours is in the Palace U23. Making the transition from age group football to first team is huge. He is older, 20, and had two loan spells, one non-league, one League 2, he is nowhere near their first team. Nor would he be anywhere near ours.

Massive difference between Academy football and first team.

Slightly off topic, but I bloke I work with is related to Declan rice. When DR was about 18/19 (before his arrival on the scene of the WHI first team, he was in Ipswich visiting his family, they got talking about loans etc and they suggested, slightly joking, that he try to get a season long loan to Ipswich.

DR really like the idea as he could stay with family, so spoke to WHI, Town I believe had a look but said physically I wasn’t anywhere near ready.

Surely has got to go out for a loan before he is considered to be a real first team asset.

Sounds like they have got his contract sorted so he can go to a L2 club for a quality full season and not get ideas above his station like Simpson.

In an ideal world we start off the season at 100mph, we are getting 2-0 up by half time more often than not, and getting young Hump on the pitch for 30/45mins weekly.

That’s in the ideal world tho. But I couldn’t imagine KMc being against promoting a youth product.

I don't see that he has leapfrogged El Mizouni, who still has 2 years left on deal as well - it may be that we try and get something for IEM as he may be seen as a pathway blocker but he's very much around the squad and has an important pre season coming up

Not that my memory is fantastic, and I don’t pay too much attention for 90mins, but ElMuz has never let us down when he’s played. I think he’s a really decent player
