I thought Humphreys, Agbaje and Chirewa were fantastic. They kept working hard for 90 minutes and making light of going one man down. But it was their quality and intelligent use when they did get the ball that was most impressive. Armin was great too even in his 5-minute cameo.

I think they along with back-up players like Vincent-Young, Hladky and Keogh were the best on the pitch.

Camara had spells but you could see he needed to get up to match speed as much as anything else. But the running and getting beyond the attackers were very encouraging. I can see him being a very useful weapon if we’re struggling to break down teams.

All bodes well for the league campaign. And I’d add that Chirewa in particular looks to be threatening to be on the bench at least – he looks a very good option if Chaplin or Harness are tiring and possibly better than John-Jules when he’s been used in that deeper role.

Unfortunately I don't expect any of those three to get many league minutes at all.

OTOH, I expect at least Humphreys to play throughout the cup competitions, including a Wembley final, should we get there.

A real shame for Chirewa that the early red totally killed his performance on the ball as he had played 2 lovely passes and a very nice clipped cross from that time. But being positive it showed that he can do his work off the ball as that is the major question mark to his game as often he just drifts through games as a luxury and that won't cut it in first team.

Agree re him being an option to break things down just don't think he'll get the minutes - with 5 subs being used in this league you really should be able to name 9 on the bench.

Yes - Pert's comments re. Chirewa's work rate were very welcome. Sounds like the lad was eager to impress in the right way.

Probably not. And we’re only talking about competing to be on the bench for now. But there’s a long way to go in the season.

I just think that us going down to 10 men and seeing how they rose to the occasion and the extra responsibility will have advanced their claims far more than the comfortable victory we looked like getting. And hopefully spur on the players ahead of them in the pecking order.

Chirewa will, he'll be around the matchday squad later this season.

Offers more than Jackson and John-Jules already!

They took their chance pretty well, I think it's important to remember it's a huge jump from playing against a heavily weakened Cambridge side in the pizza trophy vs. playing competitive L1 football though. Agabje for example, by and large did really well but certainly a few times he turned into trouble or played a loose ball inside, they're the sort of things you see Donacien doing once every couple of games, rather than 3 or 4 times per match. That all comes with experience though, bits to work on but lots of encouraging signs too.

Humphries looks to be the closest, really brave on the ball, by and large looks after the ball so well, always looking to get involved and his decision making was very good last night. Broke up a few of their attacks too, he's a quality little player. I think he can learn a lot from Evans and playing alongside him last night will be good for him. His development will be about how he can best influence a game from deep, he should be the heartbeat in a side.

Camera looked so tall, he's built like a marathon runner. Touch was awful at times but to be expected given he's been out for so long. Will take him a few weeks to dust off the cobwebs, we'll need to bed him in sensibly.

McKenna put a hand of Chirewa's shoulder and talked with him on the pitch after the end of the match, too.

For the cups (but not the League), I'd say Humphreys is ahead of those two as a starting player. He's the man in possession of the shirt, so to speak.

I agree on 2 but Chirewa it was an ppearence where he looks way way out of his depth. Meant with complete respect as he's a youngster so I don't want to sound to harsh but he just doesn't imo show the same level of understanding as the other youngsters. Lots of running in wrong areas. Gaps to play the ball into ignored and time after time he either turned back into trouble or ran into trouble. Lots of time to develop of course.
And before people jump on the post. It's my opinion that's all it is.

The others tho very very promising. Really liked the look of the late sub Armin to.

I'd be game for 4 subs. Gives you the opportunity to sub a keeper, defender, midfielder and attacker if you so wish.

Humphreys looks closest to first team level, if he continues his development he’ll be a first team regular in the future - an incredibly intelligent and technically comfortable footballer.

Agbaje physically looks really well developed and was largely impressive - could well have a bright future.

Felt for Chirewa, operated in the 10 until the sending off where he had to drift a bit more wider for defensive support - would have been a good education game for him especially though.

It struck me v Lincoln how much edwards offered as a different type of attacker to Chaplin and harness. Edwards can twist and turn and run at defenders in a way they can’t.

Does Chirewa offer that or is he more of a Chaplin type?

I think we miss Aluko as well for close control and unlocking defences at the moment.

Indeed. He had the hardest job of the youngsters trying to keep the ball up the pitch with a man short.

Thought when he dropped deeper to pick up the ball in the last 20 he looked great – and the source of our better stuff. He also put in a sh1t-ton of work off the ball throughout.

Id much prefer going back to 3 subs.

Brining on 5 subs has come at the expense of the team in my view.
