Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? 18:02 - Dec 16 with 2089 views | StochesStotasBlewe | At a loss as to what to get Mrs SSB for Christmas, so thought about booking a 3 night break in aforementioned city. Neither of us have been there before and some good Monday to Thursday deals on offer end of March, which also means no clashing with home fixtures. Worth going or tourist trap Hell?
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 18:04 - Dec 16 with 2068 views | BlueBadger | It's a great town to visit. As long as you utter clear of the stag parties around Wenceslas Square. Likely to be nippy in March still, though, so wrap up.

Mrs Badger's band recently played a local music festival which had a Hungarian sound man. And a Czech one too. One too. One too.

Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 18:12 - Dec 16 with 2038 views | catch74 | I’ve been several times, first in ‘92 when it was delightful. Then my sister lived there, so visited regularly, still lovely but more touristy. Haven’t been for 10 years plus now - I think there are probably less spoilt, similar towns/ cities to visit. (in fact I’m sure I remember someone on here recommending such a city - hopefully they’ll pop up in the thread.) I think you’d still have a great time in Prague and there’s plenty to see/ do. I really enjoyed Bruges with my wife a few years back.

Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 18:16 - Dec 16 with 2022 views | tractorshark | Don't know much about Prague but if you were considering alternatives, I have been very impressed with some of the German cities for short breaks. Cologne is wonderful, Freiburg in the south west is beautiful and right on the Swiss and French borders, and Nuremberg is very impressive.

yep, agree If you've not been on Eurotunnel, a bonus. Easy to get to St Pancras, no airport hassles/parking Good spacious seats on board the train, better than squashed on a plane Something different
Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 19:03 - Dec 16 with 1933 views | bluelagos | Spent a few days there this summer. Defo over run with tourists at the popular spots, elsewhere, as pretty as ever. Beer is so good, didn't pay more than 1.50 in local bars, lot more in tourist spots. Food nothing to write about. For alternatives I'd defo hit Brugges if you've not been before. Koln is accessible too. For a wild card, check out Bilbao or San Sebastian, would imagine spring would be a lovely time for all those places.

Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 20:26 - Dec 16 with 1744 views | Lord_Lucan | I don't think it's a patch on Krakow - plus with Krakow you can visit Auschwitz and the Salt Mines - and you will get the real feel of how terrible the former was when you visit in winter.

Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 21:27 - Dec 16 with 1641 views | mylittletown | It is a great city, one of the finest big cities in Europe. Monday to Thursday will keep you clear from most of the moronic British stag parties. Bruges is a good and probably easier alternative, although a good bit more expensive. Have you thought of Madrid?
Prague. Is it all it's cracked up to be? on 09:52 - Dec 17 with 1357 views | Guthrum | Definitely worth a visit. I've never found the tourists/stag/hen parties particularly obtrusive, you just have to pick which bars and restaurants you go in. Plus they generally stick to Wenceslas Square and the Old Town Square. The rest of the city is by no means crowded. Good views across the city from the Castle.

This is an interesting tour you can do from Prague. Less harrowing than Auschwitz but you get the message. Especially in the theatre when after a short documentary they read out details of transfers to Auschwitz, Germans are meticulous when it comes to keeping records. http://www.terezin.org/the-history-of-terezin

Nuremberg was a bit of a trial...
