So...the Gov wants us to work longer on 18:06 - Mar 16 by GeoffSentence
Work harder, work longer, eat more turnips.
That's the Tory message for us plebs.
Back to the middle ages folks.
You forgot one.
Be happy with it. The deserving poor ‘n all that. Crumbs from the masters table (trickle down economics) and cattle food, which turnips mostly were in the 19c.
Personally, I stopped working because I was done. I’d done my bit, my final years under quite a lot of stress. Given life is finite and we have enough for our meagre lifestyle, give me a reason why I should waste time working?
As a project sort of person I could get work quite easily and even get calls sometimes, but trading time for money I don’t really need seems a stupid idea. I’d rather spend time posting rubbish on TWTD and doing other stuff I enjoy.
So Mr barely human Hunt. You and your soon to be kicked out oily mates including boiler Coffey: do one.
If only there were a way the government find people to come to this county and work and pay taxes and look after our old people or staff the NHS or work in the fields pr any other number of things but where would we find people to do that?

If only there was a ready source of skilled labour on our doorstep, but no,
Lets harass the sick the disabled and the mentally unwell.
They are just what building sites and farms need. No need to provide wheelchair access to those either - too 'woke'.
Got a few hundred thousands ? Here's a tax break to increase that further. Rich people need to be made richer to encourage them to work.
Whereas the poor, the sick and the lame need to have what little they do have cut further to drive them into a job.
The only problem is with this Tory lunacy, employers don't want those whose medical conditions might mean they cannot be insured, are a liability to themselves others in the workplace. Yep, someone with a dodgy heart is just who you want driving your vans.
Huge sums are being spent in trying to cajole the unfit into jobs, whereas the same staff should be trained to process migrants, most of whom are fit and want to work.
How history will judge this lunatic righty nonsense I can only guess at.

You soon won't have the choice.
I'd expect changes affecting all sorts of private pensions not yet in payment that will increase the minimum age at which they can be drawn.
Yes, already happening. Min. age at which you can take your private/personal pension is changing so that it’s always 10 years before state pension age. So, moving from 55 to 57 over the next few years, then to 58.

In 1990 male life expectancy was about 76. Today it’s about 81. So that translates to 11 years as a pensioner in 1990 compared to 16 years as a pensioner today. That’s about a 45% increase. This coincides with an increasingly aged population and a decreasing pool of young taxpayers.
Given the facts how can any govt labour or Conservative not seek to increase state pension age?
In my view they need to do this and at the same time admit young taxpaying workers into the country. We should be ferrying them across the channel not sinking their boats,

But a dose of reality is needed:

But the pension age has already gone up over that period, which you've ignored in that calculation. In the case of females by more than the increase in life expectancy.

They are trying to cajole people who have retired early back to work. This is not to do with increasing the state pension age.
