I know the bigger picture comes first but ... 19:52 - Apr 1 with 1947 views | SomethingBlue | ... it's worth taking a moment to step back and enjoy this run because most of us won't have seen one like it in our lifetimes. It's something really special, and so are goals like our first today that won't be bettered at any level all season. There are going to be twists and turns still, and I'm pretty sure there'll be a couple of setbacks to come even in a best case scenario, but what a good thing we have going at the moment. And it proves everyone right who thought, at various earlier points in the season, that we were never a million miles from absolutely flying.

Our form collapsed for 2 months and now we’re playing like 2010 Barcelona. The new players finally bedding in I suppose but what do I know, I was convinced we wouldn’t even make the play offs. We've never been far off being brilliant though. A few on here were mocking the xG scored/conceded stats but they are starting to bear out in terms of points now. Since McKenna has come in, we've won 33 league games and 27 of those have been with a clean sheet. That's a mad stat really. [Post edited 2 Apr 2023 7:35]

The secret is not overeacting but taking a reasoned view. Our form didn't collapse, and we are not yet Barca. This is an Ipswich side having an amazing exciting record setting season where we have consistently looked likely to be promoted, and at times easily the best team in the division. My teenage son wet his knickers at the first setback, grown men should know better and be loving the current situation.

I think it’s mostly down to the ME disaster years, we are all so desperate to put them behind us by getting out of this league.

Slightly simplistic, but beefing up our midfield so that teams can’t walk right through us has been a massive improvement. That doesn’t explain why we’ve stopped making daft mistakes at the back though.

I'm not sure there were too many mistakes overall, but we did certainly go through a patch where we got punished for everything, and where every deflected show went in against us. We're getting the other side of that now - such as the disallowed goal yesterday, or Walton's penalty save against Bolton. We seemed to be on the wrong side of fine margins during that run (and even then still not losing many), whereas now we're coming out the right side. Though that mainly applies to our away games, with our home form utterly unstoppable.

Even in our difficult run we were still largely outplaying sides, dominating possession whilst creating good chances and conceding very few chances. During that run our dual issues were profligate finishing and conceding from a very high proportion of chances against. The latter was partly down to a few individual errors (Wycombe and Oxford away in particular) and some bad luck, including a couple of deflected goals and dodgy free kicks and penalties against us. We look much more solid now, partly down to Luongo coming into the midfield, and Walton has also hit top form at the right time and made a couple of important penalty saves. At the other end, Broadhead and Hirst have added to our goal threat and given us competition for places and that had a positive effect on both Ladapo and Chaplin. Freddie has been in a rich vein of form when playing, but Hirst has improved game on game and now has three in three himself. Broadhead just looks class and like he can score at any time. Luongo has also given us a bit more forward drive in the middle of the park. But ultimately, we aren't doing loads differently now to what we've been doing all season. It's fine margins and the fine margins have largely been against us for much of the season. The confidence this run has given us has also added a couple of percent, the players just don't look like they think they'll lose games.

Think it's two things. One is a really, really good January window that has given us added edge in exactly the areas we needed. The other is that our performances have been so, so consistent all season. You can make a good argument that we should have won pretty much any of the games we've lost or drawn. We've never been close to being out of a game and never been dominated or outplayed, save probably for a couple of 15-minute spells away at Plymouth (in a game we should still have won) and a 15-minute spell at home vs Wednesday. Our levels are pretty remarkable to be honest and I always felt — honestly — that we weren't very far off a run like this at all. (Yes, I also felt Paul Lambert would be a top manager for us) More broadly btw I'm massively with you on the bottom line that we really need to go up regardless of this, but also *slightly* more relaxed when I see players like Clarke and Broadhead contracted to us for next year, and hear mates who gave up for years planning to buy season tickets with their kids next season whatever division we are in. It's looking OK.

I wouldn’t say our form ever collapsed. My criticism at the time was that we had an infuriating inability to put teams away. Being the better side and dominating is a waste of time if you have a knack of caving in under pressure and leaking late equalisers. We never seemed to be far enough ahead to not be vulnerable. Not now. Since that sequence of draws and the stupid Oxford game, the results speak for themselves. Hirst, Broadhead, Luongo have made a big difference. I can recall runs like this, but not going so long without conceding. In any league it’s a great achievement. Well done KM, staff and players. I’ve never lost focus on the bigger picture. If the club is right, the team will come right sooner or later. It was always the fundamental mistake Evans made. It’s a case of carrying on and holding the nerve, even if it doesn’t fall for us in this very unusual season with four outstanding teams.

I know the bigger picture comes first but ... on 08:46 - Apr 2 with 1130 views | braveblue | We gave her very good list of the season. In our bad spell we were average for a few games. But done said we would finish mid table and done wanted the manager sacked. Pure panic. If we don’t go up this year we go again. But I suspect we will be champions. Always have although would have settled for second when SW were 10 points adrift!!

Well said, especially that last para. Some of us just have more patience and belief than others. Even since relegation. We needed to reach rock bottom (in ITFC terms) to get rid of Evans and be financially attractive to a new owner. It's all coming together nicely now. Onwards and upwards.
