Not the worst imo

Booked keeper earlier than most have imo
Allowed some 50 50 to go both ways.

Lost it a bit 2nd half tho. And was a plank during the pen. But overall thought he did quite well.

He was horrendous. His time wasting was almost as bad as Port Vale's.

Na, one of the worst we’ve had down here this season.

Let the PV players take the piss from minute one, could’ve stamped it out much sooner.

Loved being in front of a big crowd, massive gesticulating for corners etc, wanted it to be about him.

Weirdly, he gave minor decisions very emphatically but shat out of (almost) every big decision. His inability or unwillingness to address the timewasting was really poor.

I dunno. There were times he refused to allow medical team on and told the vale player to get up etc

He wasn't the best but imo not that bad.

One of the worst of the season... I still fail to understand the point of booking any player for time wasting of you're not going to get the second yellow out for the same offence.

I said to the missus that he would be sh!t as soon as I saw him... give a short man with a bald patch a whistle and a stage and all hell could break loose.

Having said that, he got the big decision right.

I thought he was alright. I actually didn’t think the time wasting was too bad but then maybe I’m just conditioned to it now.

Yeah I didn't think he was terrible, I think he was harder on the time wasting early on than most refs, and getting the goalkeeper in the book early did keep him honest in the second half; obviously a goalkeeper for a team clinging on is going to take his time on a goal kick, but there was none of the repositioning of the ball or that sort of more obvious time wasting.

There were some pretty firm tackles he let go, yes he pissed me off with the time he made Broadhead wait for the penalty, but that seems to be pretty universal these days from all refs at all levels. At least he gave the penalty as well.

He did nothing at all about the time wasting for 35 minutes and the time wasting started in the first minute.

Absolutely abysmal. Coul tell within 10 mins he was woeful. Just a ref you know you guy buy fouls from and fool all the time. Allowed the time wasting despite initially booking keeper (zero consistency). Fair play for giving the pen but he didn't give the first one which looked the same.

Best bit of officiating was the lino who gave the corner when their defender took a dive.

He repeatedly told the goalkeeper to hurry up before booking him on what, 40 minutes? I mean how early do you think I ref is realistically going to give out cards for time wasting? Port Vale were always going to try and slow the play down when it went out of play, and I think for a team like them coming to play us in the form we're in, it's a legitimate tactic and the ref is going to have some understanding of that, it's up to him to step in when it takes the piss and I think most of the time he did.

Not sure what you were watching but he was incredibly weak on the time wasting, barely hurried the keeper up before booking him, which seemed to be more of a cumulative booking for all their time wasting.

The best thing was the goalkeeper wasn’t even wasting time when he got booked as the ball had been blown out of the six yard box.

It wasn’t that bad at all. Nothing outrageous that we have seen from other teams, just the same as anyone in their position would do. We don’t have a divine right to play the game at our chosen pace.

It was worse at 0-0 than 1-1 strangely enough, the amount of times one of their players took their time over a throw then handed it to someone else to do the same took the piss.

He was a bit rubbish over letting them pretty blatantly try to kick the ground around the penalty spot and start shoving people about to put Broadhead off then booked Chaplin for pushing their player back after he'd repeatedly encroached into the area to get argy bargy and get in Broadhead's face.

Easy to be more relaxed about the ref after a win but don't think he was the worst we've had. Not even close to the utter div that reffed the Barnsley game anyway.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I thought he was alright given the league quality, seemed to give most of the decisions Towns way fwiw. on the penalty decision I think he was waiting to see what the outcome was before taking the decision, but after the 3rd strong appeal pretty much had to decide then and there.

he was talking to the Vale players early on about the time wasting, their guy who punched the ball backwards after he'd walked with it halfway down the pitch got a stern talking to and didnt engage in anymore theatrics or timewasting after that.

their keeper got given 3 or 4 warnings too, funnily enough when he did get booked, the wind had actually blown the ball forward and he was just genuinely repositioning it for once, but served him right for all the swapping sides stuff earlier.

but there werent any stupid tackles, players werent falling to the ground with the merest of touches, I think we have to accept teams will come to Portman Road and park the bus, block us and frustrate us and play gamesmanship with us, and its not actually up to the ref to get them to play properly.

its just what it is, Im sure opposition fans complain about how long it takes for our team to get back in position after scoring a goal, we definitely do deliberately seem to take a lot longer walking back than most teams do on that imo

and also when the ball goes out for a goalkick towards the corner flag, Woolfenden even when he's right next to the ball and can pick it straight up to give to Walton, turns away from it and immediately runs back in to position, more often than not for Walton, who has then gone over to retrieve the ball himself, just to kick the ball to him.

and Donacien was telling the ball team not to hand the ball back so quickly at the end of the match, so dont assume we arent playing the same time wasting games when it suits us, its just we're not so obvious about it.

You think time wasting from the first minute is ok then?

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

A member of the coaching staff spoke to each ball boy/girl early in the 2nd half, presumably telling them to pick the pace up when we had a throw in/corner etc.
