Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? 11:41 - Apr 24 with 3934 views | cbower | No, me neither. Can't see too many 'new' subscribers myself. Shame really liked Watson and Warren and Ross Halls Matchday was reasonable. Hopefully a boost to TWTD numbers as more people use this superb website and the Blue Monday Pod for their Town information. [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 11:55]

Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 12:06 - Apr 24 with 3184 views | OldFart71 | Personally think this is a retro step on behalf of EADT bearing in mind how everything else has shot up in price. I am a pensioner and whilst we got a 10.1% increase this April my Council tax has increased by £6 per month, my gas /electricity from £68 to £146 per month, sky by £10 and when contract ends in June they want another £30 on top of that, water by £11. All before you take into account food, insurances and car serving, repairs , mot, road tax etc. Added to this a Government that's frozen personal allowance until 2028.
Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 12:49 - Apr 24 with 3043 views | RegencyBlue | I think the EADT have shot themselves in the foot with this one. Free alternatives out there and, whilst KOA are good, I’m not sure how many people are going to be prepared to pay for what they have been watching free for years.
Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 12:52 - Apr 24 with 3032 views | itfcjoe | I'll subscribe, for the same reason I pay for TWTD - because we are very lucky as a fanbase to have both TWTD and the EADT. Good journos, who can be trusted and reliable, and whilst TWTD is where I go for my ITFC news and chat there are parts of the EADT coverage I prefer and want to help ensure that we as a club stay well covered by 2 different news sources

Fair play to you Joe however many people are really feeling the pinch at the moment and paying for a digital subscription simply isn't an issue if you're struggling to feed your kids or heat your home. This really isn't a dig at you at all btw - just saying that sadly many people simply don't have the option of paying for a subscription. It's an interesting show of faith (or lack of) in their content that they haven't offered the option to give a voluntary subscription like The Guardian do...

I totally get that, and if anyone is struggling to pay then I certainly wouldn't criticise them for that, fortunately that isn't the case for me for a few pound a month so happy to subscribe.

Those cost of living pains apply to Archant also, of course. Someone’s got to pay for Watson and Warren’s travel, expenses, etc. Local papers are in a tough spot; they’ve given away their content for so long that it’s now hard to get people to pay for it. And their websites are generally awful so can’t imagine they’re making much from ads on the site.

I agree with all of that, but I think the timing has rubbed people up the wrong way. Two weeks before the end of a potentially historic season. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think we're spoilt by TWTD. I wouldn't pay for the EADT either but only because TWTD is so good. If TWTD suddenly became a tenner a month I would do it in a heartbeat. Can't remember the last time I went on the EADT site. I think the Town guys are great but TWTD is basically 'home' on the internet for me.

It's a group decision surely and nothing to do with one team in one of their papers - and the first 3 months are £3 which sees you through until pre season

Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 14:00 - Apr 24 with 2605 views | DJR | As mentioned elsewhere, I have subscriptions to three publications (EADT, Star and Suffolk Life). I took them out to keep the local papers going, and because I particularly want their football coverage to survive. I pay £39.99 for one year of the EADT's digital editions, and £3 a month for the Star: perhaps no more in total than the cost of a night out. I have both because the Star is not published on a Saturday, and so the match day section is not available from it, but I am interested in Ipswich news more than that from the rest of Suffolk. I realise that things are tight, and I imagine my subscriptions might go up in due course, but compared to the cost of a digital subscription to some national newspapers it's not really that expensive. And as the app on my phone has recently updated, I now have access to the news and sports pages. [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 14:05]

Do we pay for bacon or beer? Of course we do! And if we don't use (and give money) to our local butcher's or pub it closes down. Surely journalism is no different. If we don't pay for it, the EADT will close down, sooner rather than later.

I don't necessarily disagree with the principle of what you're saying but you're comparing physical items of food and drink with a digital service...perhaps you could also ask do we pay for ITV, C4, C5 or any of the Freeview channels? Do we pay for The Guardian or Sky News? Do you pay for TWTD, Blue Monday or Talking Town?

A fair point and comparison. Maybe I think it is fair to be asked to pay for journalism because I grew up with physical newspapers and see the digital product in the same way. And I'm out of date! Digital services have the dilemma - can they survive, indeed thrive, through money from adverts, or do they need to be more "pay to view" (SKY etc)? Specialist products (e.g. TWTD) are best placed I think. My guess is that the EADT is more like a digital department store - and not enough people want that.
Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 18:23 - Apr 24 with 2153 views | Hipsterectomy | I really love the KoA podcast (as well as Blue Monday and Naked Football!!). I would support them if they decided to go independent. They lost Bacon recently who they always joked was a big earner. Roscoe has really grown on me and a 1-2 hour podcast about our women's team is incredible for a club our size.

Surely the difference is that TWTD, Blue Monday and Talking Town don't have a workforce (admittedly declining) as large as Newsquest? Of course (some) news organisations have made a success of their content being free but in the case of, say, the Guardian it has a vast number of people who pay for its services or make a voluntary contribution, as well as a huge endowment which guarantees its future. Anyone know what Terry Hunt had to say in EADT today? on 20:04 - Apr 24 with 1896 views | PrideOfTheEast | Only one I’d pay for is this site. Personal choice but not a massive fan of the coverage from the EADT and don’t think they offer anything particularly unique, especially if you’re a regular attendee at games. Ashton for example will presumably think twice about giving anything exclusive to a publication who will charge supporters to consume it. Interesting timing with the launch of Ipswich tv or whatever it’s to be called too, in addition to the numerous free podcasts etc.
