Anyone else think what ITV has done is unlawful?
I know it’s a same sex affair…. But in these modern days of everything goes, I can’t see how ITV can sack him and it be lawful. “ Affairs” happen in life snd in the work place every day . Are they sackable offences?

Technically he resigned - so they ensured no legal issue there - and similarly he 'left' his agents though they too wanted him out so no legal issues there. The questions are whether they seriously investigated the rumours surrounding one of their biggest rating stars sufficiently thoroughly. Hence the letter from Carolyn McCall including Ofcom etc. Then there's Schofield's lengthy set of lies. There is also an issue re Schofield's first meeting with the guy but that's better left unsaid. And there's an issue re a big star forming a relationship with a young person working on the same show. And then there's the 'toxic culture' the show's doctor raised...lots to consider! |  | | |

What I'm not clear on is why there was an internal investigation in the first place. For example (hypothetically) if it was in his contract that he wouldn't have a sexual relationship with subordinate staff, and there were rumours that he had done so, I guess that may have triggered an investigation. But everyone refers to this investigation as if it was just one of those things - I don't get why it happened in the first place. (I'm not saying it should or shouldn't have, I just find it odd that this piece of the jigsaw is missing). |  | | |

TV workplaces are not quite the normal workplace situation and the power of ratings-worthy stars is something that creates numerous problems internally (I'm talking in the broadest sense here) that until relatively recently were never investigated, but recent newsworthy scandals have made broadcasters nervous. |

I imagine you were down-voted because you didn’t just ask a neutral question; you gave an opinion which people maybe disagreed with; some maybe also felt you’d missed the main point of Schofield’s grooming of a minor and Harvey Weinstein-esque abuse of position.
