Webster has over 100 appearances for an impressively successful Brighton team. Yes please. He'd be an incredible signing. Surely implausible.

Downes was hardly pulling up trees in League One two years ago. If there's even a possibility of us getting him so soon after he went to West Ham, there's a reason for that. He's clearly a good quality championship midfielder, but I'm not sure he'd be a remarkable signing at this level (ignoring his history with Town).

I think we look reasonably stocked in the centre mid department now. Even if one of Evans or Ball were to go, we'd still have 4 centre mids plus Humphreys coming through. I can't see a move for Downes being feasible or especially desirable (especially given the wages he'd probably want).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Flynn back in the Championship. West Ham are after Ward Prowse aren’t they? A swap could oil the wheels of that move and Russel Martin is a huge fan (and they have the financial might). It would be a massive statement of intent if we could attract him back here, but I can’t see how we could afford him. It’d have to be a ‘pulling on his heart strings’ type of signing.

I always wanted Keifer Moore back but I think that ship has sailed. Webster would be a good signing if we were to magic our way into the prem. Despite his potential, Downes for me was never the complete footballer, I hope he gets there.

What am I reading?!? Even if he wasn't "pulling up trees in League One" (which I'd dispute, he was arguably the best player in a transitioning team), what has 2 years ago got to do with it?! He's a Premier League player!!

And the reason we might have had a slim chance of getting him back is we've moved up in the world, not that he's drastically fallen.

Downes would obviously be an incredible signing for us at this level, and the reason it's not happening is it's too incredible!

I'm honestly baffled at how some of the brains work on this forum.

Leicester should be a class above the rest if they perform to the sum of their parts.

Assuming no issues with personalities etc I agree, good enough for Leicester would be an excellent signing for us!

After all, he was hardly amazing in League One, so would be a bit of a gamble seeing if he can cut it in the division above, where he was also hardly prolific.

We're not disagreeing so very much. I'm just disputing that he'd be "disgusting" for this level (which I take to mean crazily good, and clearly out of place).

I don't think he would be crazily good for this level. I said (in the post that you find bizarre) that he would be clearly a good quality championship player. I just can't see that he'd be obviously too good for this level. The Championship now has some very good players, and I'm not sure he'd look so very out of place.

Good luck to the lad and all. I would have liked us to keep him, and said so at the time. (When we were in league one, for context). Albeit he only played a little more than half of our games in League One, which I would argue is fairly consistent with not pulling up trees.

I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up in the Championship in the next couple of years. Some of the top end Championship teams have considerable budgets.

The Leicester comment was about the type of club where I think he’ll end up.

It sounds illogical, but personally I’m not a great fan of players returning to a club as a general rule. Wark and of course Ray Crawford are the exceptions that trash my feelings on it.

My comment on Downes was certainly not about his ability or the merits of ourselves and Leicester City. If the possibility arose and KM thought he’d fit in and wanted him, would he want to come back? I’ve no idea. Somebody like Joe is far more qualified to comment than me.
