The electorate are still far too tribal and stubbornly and unthinkingly wedded to the traditional Red or Blue teams, which results in a witless and irresponsible battle for the middle ground, watering down any meaningful policies to dog piss at a time when we need radical change just to survive.

It’s not even a middle ground in any real sense. It’s the middle ground of our political parties and media that is fairly solidly right-wing/neoliberal.

We’re stuck in the same self-serving, right-leaning rut that has been failing the UK and its citizens for a couple of decades. Let alone not being fit for purpose to address the actual challenges of the world in 2023.

None of this can come as any real surprise to anyone.

Probably. But it’s the last couple of decades we’ve established an almost entirely right-wing consensus across the mainstream parties.

Egalitarianism, a planned economy, huge infrastructure projects, open borders for people and capital, the assault on private life and the assault on the British religion are not right wing policies. They’re the other thing.
