Keane, Jewel, McCarthy(ish), Hurst, Shambo, Cook...turns out it just needed some proper, targeted, methodological coaching, some well thought out tactics and an evidence led approach to signings (not just "proper blokes").
It's a long, long way to go, but it's 2 matches down and we're currently top of the fffffkin league.
To be fair to Jewell, McCarthy and, dare I say it, Hurst - money as well. Keane and Cook were backed, and Lambert should have done better in League One than he did.
Every single one of those would have done markedly better without Evans. (And that includes Hurst)
Indeed. McKenna is doing a great job but it is enabled by the club being properly run. When it was run as a non-league outfit whilst in the Championship/League 1, there was only ever one overall direction of travel.
A better structure and knowledgeable owners wouldn't have even employed Lambert, ley alone tolerated his utterly half-arsed strategy of buying a few beers and reminding people he played for Dortmund.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
It needed a shed load of money more importantly. Let's not forget, if we hadn't spent big in January then McKenna's coaching would not be enough and we'd still be in L1.
Worrying talk of statues being built after 2 games. Let's enjoy and keep things in perspective.
In fairness this all starts with the Ownership and CEO accountability wise. Yesterday we were not there with appropriate support and challenge, whereas today we have the fine balance in place which appears to currently enable KMcK to flourish.

What’s wrong with a good statue? One of the three lions and Ashton at each corner of the ground and KM next to the big man himself sorted !😄
And yet only 4? of the starting 11 were signed since K Mc signed?
I think Cook actually deserves a lot of credit for his ability to spot a good player as he seemed to do that before the backroom team existed.
Cook had the money of the current owners and spent a lot on a collection of players he couldn't get much out of. The fact that the reason some of them cost the money we paid for them was because they were decent players who could perform when properly coached and played in a system that plays to their strengths shouldn't be a great surprise. We also signed a good number of players along the lines of Scott Fraser who needed moving on.
All we needed was millions and millions of American pension fund money.
Actually this is a bit churlish. Hiring O’Leary and Ashton has proven very good so far, they have reorganised and overhauled the entire operation. But they wouldn’t be here without the money. So I dunno.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

When Evans joined us we had more money than anyone else at our level and the freedom to spend it.
The big difference is how the club is run. If we had got that right without the money, we wouldn't be where we are now but had we had that instead of Evans, we would have remained a well run Championship club with the potential to make it to the Premier League. McCarthy wasn't a million miles from getting us there even when we were poorly run without the money.

Cook deserves a big credit for the Demolition Job. For kicking out to Colchester and other clubs all those parasites who had been with us for a nice and easy payday and didn't play for the shirt.

The counter to that is that the GC20 money is covering a long period of fiscally cutting corners and poor fiscal sustainability. 2 seasons of investment to counteract almost 15 seasons of financial neglect. Over time, I would say we're now on par with a bunch of the other teams around us.

Cook started what needed to be done, he just wasn't up to the task and had poor game management that ended up costing him the job. The players who were let go were hardly to blame, not fully. For many seasons they knew they were papering over the cracks as players and when the legs gave up on the older players there was nothing there to replace them, so we went down.
But what do we owe Cook? Not much of anything really - he was unable to get success with his hand picked group of players.
