Burns 18:06 - Aug 26 with 3631 views | Cheltenham_Blue | I must admit, I've never noticed him doing this before, perhaps because in L1 he was up against much slower defenders? But the two times be got in behind during the first half, when he got to the ball he really slowed down and steadied himself before shooting, which allowed the defenders to get back and challenge as he got the shot away. The third time he got in behind, it must of been playing on his mind, as it was this time that he lashed at it first time, and sent it into the SAR. I think it's something that he can improve with coaching, and Farke, was clearly worried that eventually he would score, hence bringing on Shackleton at half time. If McKenna and Grant can work with him, Burns could get into double figures from those kind of moves.

Burns on 18:15 - Aug 26 with 3472 views | oldbeardy | he's been great in league 1 although even there his form seemed to tail off. I just think unfortunately he's not quite good enough for top of the championship - he rarely takes his man on and beats him these days, not like he used to do. Not suggesting he is suddenly awful or anything and still an important part of the team but just maybe lacking the cutting edge we now need
Burns on 18:19 - Aug 26 with 3421 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | See my above post, not sure how much that is coachable to be honest. Lower league players often need a bit more time to set themselves.

Burns on 18:22 - Aug 26 with 3353 views | ChampionsofInnsbruck | He should have had a couple that’s for sure, his first half was not great, much better in the second and probably shouldn’t have come off in the end. We’re not going up this season but if we can do okay that’s fine by me.

Thought Burns played well today, his best so far this season, also Jackson deserves a lot of credit for todays performance. Broadhead and Chaplin by their very high standards they have set we’re not quite on it for large parts of the game. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think that is harsh after a match in which he made several meaningful opportunities for himself and others.

He really wasn’t. Yes his pace got him in great positions but the quality just isn’t there. No end product and slow decision making. No point getting in the positions if can’t convert.

People must watch a different game. Had the ball at his feet for 2-0 but couldn’t get set. The Left side of their defense was there to exploit all game (but especially first half) and slow decision making cost us multiple times when we were in behind. [Post edited 26 Aug 2023 19:10]

Yeah, he'd never get in the Man City first 11.

Got in great positions and made incredible runs but he was close to unforgivably wasteful at the forth chance where he slashed it wide.

In league 1. This is a different kettle of fish. I don't think he is up to it personally. Not for a top half championship team. We aren't going up this year anyway, so it doesn't matter until we get more replacements over the course of the next few transfer windows.

Two one on ones and he wanted another few mins to settle and pick his spot. Wasn’t impressed with him today, up until maybe 65/70mins.

Burns on 06:54 - Aug 27 with 1848 views | PrideOfTheEast | The chance at 1-0 really annoyed me - had to score and Leeds showed us how it’s done in the next 15mins or so didn’t they. That miss had a massive impact on the game. Think Burns was good against Stoke, did ok at Sunderland, missed a sitter against QPR (which against a better team would have cost us). Probably does more defensively than most of us realise but he’s got a lot of work to do going forward, to keep his place here I think.
Burns on 07:18 - Aug 27 with 1799 views | PioneerBlue | It’s possible WB will not adjust to Champ football. It’s possible lots of last seasons players will not either. However it’s interesting to observe comments on this board that show how quick fans are to disregard any adjustment a player needs to make for the new level. It could take a few weeks (as is the case for Leif or Morsy), it could take a few months or most of the season. I know it’s not what some want to hear but we are not going to turn the whole squad over in one summer and one window. I’m not sure what these people were expecting. KMcK could not have communicated any clearer about the step up. How many want to read on a weekly basis that in XYZ’s opinion is that this player isn’t up to it or that player is not good enough? Is it always only in your opinion, what data are you using to back up such an inspired opinion versus our elite coaching set up? If you want to record such a view twtd allows this in the player ratings. In the main we’ve got what we’ve got until January or next summer. If you only want to point to player errors or players having more difficulty with the adjustment game to game you are going to find the next months very unrewarding. I’m with the OP. Looking forward to seeing how players cope and they come through the challenges they all face as players and as a group; also looking forward to seeing which improve with the understanding that ultimately some will fall away over time. Burns on 07:46 - Aug 27 with 1707 views | BigCommon | Tbf, weve got a few players that are on a learning curve at this level, when facing the cream of the division.. I don't want to criticise our forwards too much. We scored 3 goals, and forced enough situations/errors to maybe score more. But we really should be getting something from a game we score 3 goals in..Which points to the other end of the pitch, as to where we could have been better, imo....Again , though, Leeds front 3 are probably the best we'll face this season. The quality of Gnonto, Piroe and Sinisteri is like a cheat mode at this level, so I'm not going to be too harsh on our back line and keeper, either... At 3-1 it looked like a demolition was on the cards. But we dug in and kept it respectable. So lots of credit due imo... 3 wins and a narrow loss to one of the divisions heavy weights. I'll take that, with a bitter taste from yesterday's defeat. It's been a while since we felt defeat. But we'll feel it a few times this season.. Lots to learn and improve on.But overall, I'd have bitten your arm off for 9pts from our opening 4 fixtures, plus a cup match win to boot. [Post edited 27 Aug 2023 18:52]

I thought he played well. He got past the Leeds defenders on plenty of occasions and they were clearly worried about him. His finishing? Not the best I’ve ever seen. The chance in the first half where he slashed it into Churchmans lower was a bit head in the hands. I don’t think he’d have scored even if he’d hit the target, given the angle, players and goalie position. But at least he had a go. You won’t win the raffle if you don’t buy a ticket etc. Burns will be a valuable player for us this season.
Burns on 08:56 - Aug 27 with 1528 views | pointofblue | I was more impressed with Burns than Chaplin or Broadhead, to be honest, even though both of the latter scored. Saying that, I would have subbed him for Ladapo, rather than Jackson.

Burns on 08:59 - Aug 27 with 1508 views | glasso | Yeah it was a shame he dawdled a bit on those shots - League One defenders wouldn't have tracked back as well there and it wouldn't have mattered. But he got in some good positions and it won't be long before he's putting them away. That's the difference between an attacker and a striker, innit. That 10% better finishing makes all the difference
Burns on 09:04 - Aug 27 with 1486 views | DJR | We've scored 9 goals in 4 games which suggests our attacking play is not an issue, even without Hirst. I thought Burns was excellent today. Jackson also did really well, including some of his off-the ball running which opened up space for others. Certainly, McKenna spoke after the game of his view that Jackson was suited to playing at a higher level. And whilst Broadhead and Chaplin didn't hit the heights, they both chipped in with a goal.
