These are essentially clickbait articles and highly subjective but having lived in Madrid and Barcelona, their positions are way off in my experience. I also visited both as a tourist before living there, and Barcelona is a much more livable city and a great walk around location. I lived in Madrid for much longer than Barcelona and it was decent but not a patch on what Barcelona has to offer. There's also no mention of fine cities like Valencia, Bilbao or Seville, all of which I'd put above Madrid for a getaway.

I live Barcelona, first visited in 2006. It has a few flaws, but what a beautiful city with great food and climate. Melbourne, Paris, Milan, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, even Sydney, It beats them all.

Some of the buildings in Barcelona are a bit gaudi though.

Barcelona down at 38th trailing such delights like Glasgow tells you all about that list. Whilst Edinburgh is nowhere to be seen unless I missed it whilst trawling through the names.

I much prefer Seville over Madrid and Barcelona.
