Some accounts on Twitter (suspect the tweets have now been deleted) even tried to justify it by saying he was inciting the crowd.

Including a now deleted post from the WTID podcast which they have now ‘clarified’….

As to be expected, the OwlsTalk thread on the subject is an absolute state with more than a handful of posters again trying to justify it…

I just can’t fathom why anyone would be racist. There’s something I’m missing in even seeing a logic that could lead to it (which I’d obviously disagree with!), as it always has and always will baffle me as one of the oddest behaviours of mankind.

Just so sad to me that humans can be like this. I mean, it really is pathetic. And seen a minority of Wednesday supporters victim blaming, including one of their biggest podcasts..

It's not a good look at all.

No idea who FollowEnglandAway is, but I'd be interested to hear why they're downvoting this.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I was going to suggest there’s no logic to it and some people are just REALLY thick. But you also find intelligent racists around too. It is a mystery.

Sorry, just seen this after I started my thread.

Weds fans were also throwing missiles on the pitch again, after racially abusing their manager and throwing missiles on the pitch last season.

Then there was the Bradley Lowery incident.

I’m sure it’s a tiny minority letting the rest of them down, but it’s happening far too often to them for it to be a coincidence and it’s always them.

I used to like them, but they are becoming quite a loathsome bunch now.

WTID have now protected their tweets.

It’s less than a year ago that Darren Moore was subjected to vile racist abuse by a Wednesday fan. The authorities need to come down hard on the club for this as there is obviously a problem with their support.

Obviously it’s a minority but I’m not sure how else that minority will get the message unless their club is punished.

Am not a fan of collective punishment for a few reasons.

Firstly, because you are punishing people who literally did nothing wrong, many of who will be disgusted by the racism and who would themselves challenge it and condemn it without reservation.

The argument that that is the only way to deal with racists at football is quite bizarre. We should deal with them like any other criminals, by identifying them, prosecuting them and punishing them

Given the CCTV it should be easy enough to do.

Can think of no other walk of like where collective punishment is put forward as a credible response to criminal behaviour rather than actually dealing with the criminals themselves.

I would add, if the club doesn't deal with it (by identifying and if proven then banning the fan) then I think fineing the club absolutely appropriate.

FIFA President has made a statement.

"FIFA and football shows full solidarity to victims of racism and any form of discrimination. Once and for all: No to racism. No to any form of discrimination.

"The players affected by Saturday's events have my undivided support.

"We need all the relevant stakeholders to take action, starting with education in schools so that future generations understand that this is not part of football or society."

He wants automatic forfeit if it leads to a match being abandoned . Be nice if FIFA & UEFA lead by example. Problem with match abandonment is it could lead to a riot in some parts of the world.

I know we are only talking about a small minority of fans but suspect many of us can think of someone likely to be openly racist and I’mnot talking about those easily lead.

Good he came out and said that. At the time it looked poor but I think there is history with him defending 'wrong uns' so people jump to thinking he is trying to brush this off.

I don't think abandoning the match or forfeit of the match would be correct. If it can be done, find the culprits and ban them for life. If that can't be done, then maybe force the club to play behind closed doors for a game, perhaps allowing away fans only

The Netherlands clamp down on fan trouble now. A few games this season have been abandoned and then restarted from the point of cancellation a few days later behind closed doors.

Some footage from crowds around Europe is quite shocking - fireworks, real violence - police just stand there.

Just to say its not a regular thing its only happend 3 times all in the last few years and i have been in same seat since new stand was built .

Watching their game tonight on ESPN, and Palmer is being audibly booed every time he gets the ball…

Wednesday fans also booed Coventry players taking the knee pre-game.

Knuckle dragging morons. There seems to be an element in most football crowds over the last few years. It’s noticeably worse since Covid (I’ve no idea why or if that’s just a coincidence).
