Let em toddle off to the super league in all honesty. If anyone should be challenging the way financial restrictions work in the premier league, its the clubs that have been left behind by hyper investment of clubs like City.

Imagine being a team like us who would see mid table mediocrity as an achievement in the PL.

I doubt our owners would agree. All that money flowing away from the Prem to the super league. Suddenly makes their investment a lot less attractive.

Truly impaired.

I honestly think the PL would be just as appealing without them, maybe if 4 clubs were to go it would paint a very different picture. It just is a bit insulting seeing Man City calling it tyranny of the masses when the financial compliance rules are all over the place between PL clubs

I don’t see what their problem is. With spend being related to income, surely that gives them an advantage over most other clubs. They have the highest revenue.

Without knowing all the ins and out of their action my first guess is that they know they are in real trouble over the 115 outstanding charges and this is some sort of preemptive strike connected with that.

Could be. That article’s behind a paywall, so I’m not sure either. I think they’ve been legally challenging for years, so this could be part of that ongoing delaying tactic. Although this does sound a bit more aggressive on the face of it, so you could well be right.

As for the charges, I can’t imagine there’s so much smoke without a fire or two somewhere.

100% agreed! Clever really.

Ties up more of a legal battle and potentially could add years to the final outcome.

'Yes, we broke FFP but only because the PL is unlawfully stopping income!!'

What a disgusting, unsporting sport our sport has become in some ways. We've lost the soul of football in order to sell advertising to the all-devouring, soulless, destructive monster of consumerism. Yuck!

One league & four divisions & a near-linear tapering of TV revenue across the whole league = proper sport. Fk the money men.

Agree with that. And if that means the top six scuttle off to create some artificial league with morally and actually bankrupt clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and the Italian clubs, playing out in the desert or far east, great.

They can play made up games with made up crowds and made up scores with fat salaries. It worked for wrestling on Saturday afternoons, ITV - apart from the salaries. Not sure Mick McManus and co got paid much.

I think the formation of a Super League would probably be good for the game, as long as the SL clubs didn't have their cake & eat it by playing in their domestic league as well. If the latter happened, they would simply be taking over the Champions' League, running it for themselves, keeping others out 7 dividing up all the money.

Should a SL happen that’s exactly how it should be. They play in their isolated SL bubble, with no entry to Domestic or European club football. We all then continue and structure ourselves with better competitive distribution of money that eliminates chasms between each division.

The Championship is actually a good example. Highly regarded, competitive, decent and stands in its own right, with most fans actually preferring the experience. Would be even better without parachute doping.

Makes them look guilty.

Looks like them saying, yes we cheated the rules, but the rules weren’t fair.

Hate the club they’ve become anyway, drop them out of the league nobody would miss them now, I know City fans from before oil money, proper footballs, following a proper football club, even they don’t like this faux club they’re trying to be.

Soulless football club.

It's an absolutely stupid argument. They are saying that it is an unfair restriction of trade that they have to be sustainable. There are rules to make it somewhat fair. The competition commission wouldn't allow a big company to sell a product below cost for years to put smaller companies out of business only for a monopoly to hike prices.
The argument sounds to me like "we can afford to pay 12 players to be on the pitch, so we should be allowed to have 12 on the pitch".

If the PL could get away with a points deduction, that doesn't threaten Man City's Prem status, they would.

But there is the threat of an independent football regulator being imposed on the PL. If the PL don't look like they are doing something substantial to punish City for their cheating, the chance of the regulator becoming a reality increases.

Even multiple relegations aren't going to be too damaging to City. It would only put them a couple of seasons behind.

That's probably something City don't want to find out what would happen if they were relegated. But the minimum would be mass player sales and possibly loosing their manager. That could take years to recover from.

Also, as far as I'm aware, the PL has no power to give City multiple relegations into the EFL....unfortunately.
