This doesn't look good.

On the VAR replay it didn't look like there was any contact with him, which makes it even more worrying.

The whistling and noise from an impatient crowd is disgusting.

No, not sure what happened there. It wasn’t a collision with Gunn. They’re very worried, whatever has happened. Fingers and everything else crossed here

Yeah. On first viewing I assumed it was a clash of heads given two went down but on that replay, like you say, nothing.

It was directed towards the medical staff slouching on with the stretcher.

Didn't look like anything as you say, but he kind of went stiff mid air. I wonder if Gunn caught him with a trailing leg after he'd passed him. No intent.

Very much doubt the Hungarian fans were doing it due to impatience, the scene was right in front of them and they could clearly see what was happening.

From my modest experience in first aid training, it looked to me like he had some kind of seizure. His arms went stiff mid-air, and his breathing was very seizure-like when he was on the floor. Seizure would obviously be better than cardiac arrest, or anything else as sinister, but still very horrible to see on the field of play. Hope he is ok.

The way his hands were when he was on the floor. Upright and his hands pointed at a right angle.

I think it was from his head hitting the ground, looked like he had a seizure from being knockout. Glad to hear he's stable and conscious

Shows how easy it is to jump to the wrong conclusions based on a briefly shown replay. Confirmed that he’s had multiple facial fractures repaired today after colliding with Gunn. It must have happened early on before Gunn then fell over the other Hungary player, with Varga knocked out cold before he hit the ground. That would explain all our observations above.

Anyway, the good news is he’s expected to make a full recovery.

That is good news, I mean still pretty awful injuries but at least he'll be okay. It was a strange one as I'd assumed in real time he'd been knocked out - that was how it looked - but the VAR replay then made it look like Gunn was nowhere near. Glad he's going to make a full recovery.

Yeah, still doesn’t make a lot of sense based on what we saw last night. But yeah, it doesn’t really matter. The main thing is he’ll be ok (but probably a bit uglier!).

Innocuous? Varga broke his jaw, a horrific injury which I've seen happen in hockey.

I was a youngster when this happened to an opponent during a game. Game abandoned and the player who was twice the size of me was uncontrollably screaming in the circle. Took 35mins for an ambulance to arrive, really considered giving up playing hockey after that.

I didn't see it live, but the YouTube slow mo replays showed gunn give him a forearm across the face/head. He looked unconscious before he hit the ground.
