I do think it hugely importnat that the club get a number 1 confirmed ASAP.
Communication and familiarity for the defensive line with their GK, especially with a ball playing GK as per our playing style is abosolutely imperative, so we need a good 6 weeks of pre-season to ensure familiarlity with teammates
The last thing we want to do is start the season with a new No 1 who has only been at the club a week or two, i think that could potentiall prove problematic in the early games of the season.
Stating the obvious maybe but with Vaz moving on and no current no 1 I hope whoever we target doesn't become a long drawn out transfer as that would be a bit unsettling. |  |

Walton is still with us and knows exactly how we play.
Had he not got injured, he may well have still been no. 1 last year.

Sounds like we've got a couple of possibilities in mind at least, though wouldn't be surprised to see a left field signing. If money was no object I'd go for Kelleher who looks set to leave Liverpool but I imagine he's out of our price range. |  |

He certainly ticks a lot of the boxes we'd look for. Not just as a keeper either.

I thought it was a fair point to be honest. It isnt like other positions where players can just drop in.
The keeper needs to have a relationship with the defenders and they need to have an understanding of how he plays etc.
Ashton does always seem to be ahead of the game so I can only imagine someone is lined up in due course. |  | | |

I'd like to think of myself as a reasonably moderate contributor here.
If anything my post was a friendly arm around the shoulder to chill and not waste energy worrying about something I didn't think was really an issue on the day our keeper leaves and our previous No 1 still remains at the club.
If you do, that's fine but I don't see the risk today.
As you mention, it might become a risk as the days/weeks pass.
I don't suppose for a moment Vaz leaving today is a surprise to either KM or MA. They'll sort it. Keep the faith! | |

Yep, it's not an ideal situation but we knew it was coming - I'd feel a lot more confident if Vas was still here as would give us more comfort and time to get the right deal done for, presumably Rushworth.

Op is right tho. You don't want to be training for 5 weeks with for example Walton and then a new no. 1 in the final week of pre season. | |
