My constituency has a long standing Tory MP - had his seat about 15 years. But he is standing down and a new tory candidate is replacing him. If this constituency goes red after being blue for many years, then will really mean the tories are screwed!

Easiest way is probably to check the bookies odds. The polling is a bit over the place but they will be on top of it for sure. https://www.oddschecker.com/politics/uk-constituencies [Post edited 3 Jul 2024 9:36]

I can get 11/10 on both the Tories and Labour, with Greens next at 40/1 who won't come close. If I could be arsed there's a guaranteed 5% profit to be made by betting on both.

In my constituency, the Tory MP is 1/7 on, but then again in a poll suggesting only 59 Tory MPs left, he was one of those 59. [Post edited 3 Jul 2024 9:38]

I am in the same constituency. I've decided to still put my cross in his box because a) he might well be reinstated, b) he will still have Labour values and c) I suspect many people don't even realise he has been suspended (not kicked out) the party. Local Lib Dems were outrageous rushing out a leaflet saying that he was basically no longer a candidate.
Voting day tomorrow and still undecided who to vote for on 09:41 - Jul 3 with 4833 views | MattinLondon | Where I am Labour is the best bet to unseat the local Tory MP. I wish that Labour were a bit more lefty but for me, it’s all about getting rid of the Tories. I haven’t watched any of the debates on telly as considering the current circumstances, they were all pointless to me.

I have no idea about gambling, but if I've read that right Labour are the bookies favourite in Suffolk Coastal? That's really quite something. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Same for me, the polling was very close between the Tories and Labour, but now with the labour candidate suspended and the lib dems heavily pushing that they are the anti-tory vote I imagine the Conservatives will hold it due to the votes being split between various alternatives. I'm not a staunch Labour supporter, but I would have been voting for them before all this, not sure what to do now. Sods law that we live in an area with the one Labour candidate who appears to be as corrupt as your average Tory.

You'd never make a Tory candidate (or Labour one for North Ipswich) with an attitude like that.

Voting day tomorrow and still undecided who to vote for on 10:00 - Jul 3 with 4683 views | thebooks | Green for me (Ipswich). Labour will win the seat by miles, so it’s a free hit. Although I know quite a few people who will “hold their noses” and vote Labour just to be absolutely sure Tom Hunt is ousted. As the Greens are doing well in Suffolk, be good to get them challenging in Ipswich as well. We haven’t exactly got the most dynamic CLP here, and it be good to keep them vaguely honest, locally and nationally.

I’m still going to Vote for him I think. First time I’ve ever been probably a ‘floating voter’ as have always been Labour in the few elections since I turned 18 but am not particularly enamoured by the party currently. The chance of Labour beating the Tories in the seat is too much to pass up on though and I think I’d regret not voting Labour. I’d probably Vote Green under PR.

I just checked out who my tory candidate is. Nikki Da Costa who was a "special advisor" to Theresa May and BJ. I'd be keeping that one quiet if I was her!

She was someone who during the Brexit shenanigans popped up frequently on TV claiming to be an expert on the Parliamentary process. As someone who worked in the government department responsible for legislation and advising on all things Parliamentary, I was highly sceptical. As if to prove my point, there is this from Wikipedia. "She was heavily cited in the High Court case regarding the prorogation of parliament in 2019, having provided written advice to the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson that the prorogation should take place."

I wrote to him and he didn't respond so I'm doubly annoyed, but still think it is probably right in this instance to vote for Labour and hope to avoid a Tory win here.
Voting day tomorrow and still undecided who to vote for on 10:29 - Jul 3 with 4407 views | DJR | One thing that puzzles me is why Waveney Valley of all places is a possible Green victory. Looking at the area, it appears predominantly rural ,and Electoral Calculus characterises the proposed seat as "Strong Right", with right-wing economic and social views, high home ownership levels and strong support for Brexit. Perhaps someone from the area could explain.

I am leaning the same way. Do you think if labour do win it though, and Kevin Craig is kicked out, that there is a chance they will put Dan Poulter in his place? It would seem to make sense given his defection from the Tory seat for the same constituency, but I don't know how I would feel about it, I mean I like how he spoke about his decision to cross the floor, but he stood by for a lot of s*it before doing so.

Its a Conservative constituency that will just happen to be Green for the next 5 years. There are a lot of local and district Green councillors around who are very active, so it all about getting the Tories out for now.

I might be wrong but I think if that was the case they’d have to do a by-election. I think if he wins it will get brushed under the carpet and he’ll be unsuspended in a month or so.

She's certainly not popular anecdotally in Felixstowe, everybody you speak to seems to strongly dislike her, even staunch Tories. I'm no fan of Labour in their current incarnation but I will certainly have a smile on my face on Friday morning were Coffey to lose her seat.

I think it seems you are right, seems even more strange not to have made a decision about the current guys future before the election, if he wins and then is found to have done what he is accused of he will have to go, and then it will be an immediate by-election. Edit - I would understand in the past when polling would have suggested there was no chance of anything but a Tory win, but at least before all this there was a genuine chance labour could win this time around.
