Why?

He’d get them playing as a unit and focussed on hurting teams. He’d carry on the team spirit and togetherness. Question marks over the defensive coaching under his teams though. But if people like the look of how Spain were the better side and played together, England could do a lot worst than Potter.

I’m not sure his face would fit though. They’re probably more likely to go down the boring FA route with someone like Cooper. Or big name foreign.

Nothing about this improves with a bloke who managed Brighton for a couple of years.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

It should always be an Englishman at the helm. I would prefer Eddie Howe to Potter.

As long as it's not KM. I really think that the way he likes his teams to play would work well for England, but a national job is not the best for a young up and coming manager.

Actually it possibly would. His strength is in giving teams a clear direction and identity. He’s a bit like KM in that regard. He’s got high emotional intelligence like KM too.

Tbf managed Brighton successfully, compared to Southgate who relegated Middlesbrough.

Not sure why so many are against this.

He is quite clearly the best (realistic) option. His spell at Chelsea was tough, but they were a mess. Think he would be good for England.

I know it's only a slim chance but I am worried nonetheless that after all the saga we've been through already England might come for KM. Probably won't but I still worry.

Southgate IN!

Though Cooper's only just joined Leicester. And, being Welsh, so not sure if managing England will be at the top of his priorities, to put it mildly.

My concern with Potter is what happened with Chelsea - can he manage egos? Similar to Hodgson; I'm not sure whether he ever got to fill grips with that for either Liverpool or England.

I don't think there's an English manager out there who's good enough or proven enough at the moment. I'm all aboard the Klopp train.

Southgate hasn't had anywhere near the managerial career Potter has and the players absolutely love him, so cannot see that being an issue. They seem like a pretty good group and Potter strikes me as quite an empathetic, intelligent bloke. A bit like Southgate.

I wouldn't worry. If there is a slim chance they would approach him there is zero chance he would accept it.

Obviously Klopp would be great, but I can't see it.

I would go for Eddie Howe as he took Bournemouth from L2 to PL and Newcastle from relegation area to CL all while playing decent football. OK he had money both times but with England he'll get the best we have!

Potter obviously did great in Sweden, didn't do anything special at Swansea, did well at Brighton however was then eclipsed by De Zerbi and then had a disaster at Chelsea, I'm not saying he's a bad manager but I think he needs another job to prove himself again before getting the England job.

Alternatively De Zerbi profited off the foundations that Potter set.
