I think we are going to have to be patient with the team over the next few games.

There is a general feeling that Liverpool and Man City were free hits and the season starts with Fulham. But last year we had the momentum from our previous promotion and the team was very settled. Continuity was the ket and everyone was comfortable in their role.

Our team in three games time is going to be unrecognisable, and as good as the players are there will be a bedding in period when they get to know each other and perfect the patterns of lay that the League One/Championship team was so familiar with.

I think things we get worse before they get better. But they will get better.

It's just how it is for promoted clubs.

We need to judge the season over 38 games. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

There was a lot of overconfidence on here over the summer. Easily stay up, definitely top half etc.

It's going to be a battle. Was depressing to see the reaction from a vocal minority yesterday.

Truly impaired.

100%.

We’ve done a really good job in the past of integrating new players into the mix, but not with this level of change. It’s quite probable that 9 of the starting 11 in a few weeks will be players that have only joined this summer. In that respect the fixture list has been quite kind, serving up 2 games that we probably wouldn’t have got anything from whenever we played them.

We’ve got a fortnight after Fulham until we next play as well. Some points on the board on Saturday would be a lovely way to go in to that break, and I dare say we’ll see improvement as the weeks go on and team settles.

Actually it was last used with Cook - and that went not so well.

But it is true. KM and the crew do need time.

One good thing with being in the Premier is that we barely play more than one game a week other than cup weeks so they'll be more training sessions for players to learn or patterns of play. One of the reasons McKenna has had to take time to bed players in when we were in the EFL is because when you play Saturday/Tuesday there's not many sessions to practice our patterns. Hopefully it'll mean less time for the new boys to "gel".

It doesn't help that it's only a 38 game season rather than the 46 we have been used to.

I trust us to gel quicker under this manager. If anyone remembers the absolute transformation in style between the Wycombe and Gillingham away games it was a revelation.

If memory is correct, we had a game called off inbetween so they had time to put work in on the training field.

I said yesterday I think it's best to see it as 3 months of finding ourselves. International breaks etc within this time so a bit stop start.

Get as many points as we can and then after Christmas we will see it in full flow.

I honestly think KM will see it similar. Not as simplistic as that of course but it'll take time.

Let's not forget it took km half a season to really set his stool out with this squad when he took the job on, he's almost at that point again altho higher level and with his own transfers.

a niche perspective

Agree but we’ve also got a decent (by premier league standards) 8 games coming up. Obviously they’re all still tough, and it includes Villa and a trip to Brighton, but the sort of set of fixtures we probably want to be taking double digits by way of points from if we’re to stay in touching distance of a survival level run rate.

Just hope we don't take a step back assuming the likes of Fulham will be easier. They have stayed in the division on merit.

Also hope we don't get a small element of entitled fans. We have got used to winning or at least competing for two years now. Still remember the bad old days of fans bickering with each other. I think most supporters are realistic now.

While I agree I wonder how much goodwill and time McK will get. Will the grumblings transmit as boos at FPR come November if we are still bottom 3?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

This is modern football, of course it will.

Actually, prob unfair to blame it on modern football, just modern society.

for a bit of context, it was a comment about how folks might over react if things don't go too well for us.

Put them all in the team during the week in the cup.
Leave the ones who we expect to be moved on out. Don't want them to be cup tied as it would reduce their appeal to Amy buyers.

I doubt there will be boos as early as November. We’d have to be on a really bad run for that to happen. More likely the low IQ mongrels on Twitter will be stomping their feet and demanding change at the slightest hint of adversity.
