27 goals in the Belgian league last year which obviously looks good.
Presumably fit and good at pressing and hold up play too if we’re legitimately interested.
Would seem more exciting than Broja but would Brugge be happy for us to have on loan with an obligation to buy? Seeing as we’ve surely spent our budget by now as we’re up to approx 100m spent?
My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.
The sale of Kévin Denkey is more difficult than expected. There was talk of Lille, Real Sociedad and even Leverkusen, but it never came up with a good offer. Cercle wants at least 15 million euros and preferably 20 million, but that will be difficult. Still, there is a good chance that Denkey will say goodbye to Cercle against Krakow on Thursday. Ipswich Town has great interest and would now make a concrete offer. Chelsea's Armando Broja was supposed to be Ipswich's new striker, but didn't get through the medical examination, Kévin Denkey is now the alternative. (kv)
Watched a lot of him on Wyscout in January as we were having a look then, so he is a long term target even if it wasn't reported
I guess the issue is Bruges may want to sell, whilst Broja and Edouard are on loan with obligation to buy on survival. Our decision could well be based on finances.
Given FFP, I wonder if we propose a chunky loan fee of 4-5m with an obligation to pay another 7-8m if we stay up next season?
In terms of accounting, that would be more expensive in this year's accounts - assuming we were to sign permanently and give him a 4/5 year deal and amortise it over that length. Full loan fee would hit this year's numbers.

If we get on a long contract to spread the cost ,half the transfer fee and his wages will be less than the 100k p/w for Broja so probably not hugely different
Lol I was going to mention Kevin Denkey last week when the Broja deal started to wobble, after looking at a list on Transfermarkt - strikers under €20M, ruling out those at a 'big' club already - but I stopped myself because I'd never seen him kick a ball before. He has a smiley face compared to others on that list, which made me believe he would fit in with the squad well if he speaks English.

It will also be based on our due diligence on Denkey. Hopefully he speaks English? If he doesn't that could be a big stumbling block from McKenna's perspective. I'm assuming he must since we wouldn't have scouted him for the last 18 months otherwise.

How's your new head of recruitment role going at Town by the way?
Direct, physical, good hold up play. Right footed, decent conversion rate (though we know that whilst goals are important it's the hold up play and off the ball that is as important to KM). Good at bringing others into the game. More than decent in the air.
His pressing is generally excellent, for Brugge, he often activates the press for the team. Off the ball his work rate is good, generally intelligent runs.
There are areas where he can improve, his passing and shot selection are two areas. Not so good on his weaker foot either.
Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...
Oooo one post after another stating he is right footed with a poor left foot and another stating he has a hammer of a left foot!
I looked back and watched the video and it was his right foot, could've sworn it was the other way but may have been getting too excited by David Johnson comparisons
McKenna's been talking about building a group of hungry players with the potential/desire to succeed at PL level. At 23, Denkey's another perfect addition for that IMO. Hirst - despite not having much top flight experience - can act as the elder statesman in a trio of Denkey, Delap and Hirst.
Spurs and Dortmund were linked with Denkey in January. I just wonder if he's not quite got the reputation needed for a club of that stature to pull the trigger. Hence why a move to us makes sense. Do well here for 2-3 years then we'll flog you to Postecoglu for £50m, mate!
