A question, or 2, for 92 club members 18:09 - Oct 11 with 4532 viewsKeno

Does the 92 stand at the time you complete it or if having completed that a new team joins the league do have to visit their ground to maintain the "92'?

If the later how many grounds have you visited in total?

You have to keep up to date. So if a new side comes up to L2, or a new ground appears, you've got to do it. Up to a few years ago if, say Colchester went down to the Conference, and then came back next season, you'd have to go again. However a couple of friends of mine lobbied successfully for a rule change. Women's football counts as well now, so a bit easier to tick off grounds where tickets are normally at a premium. Happy football travelling.

Im on the journey to completing it, only done about 35ish but making a concerted effort.

I think realistically you make up your own rules. There are some 'official' ones, but noone is giving out any medals so what counts and doesnt is up to you.

Some of mine (disclosure, I'm recently diagnosed autistic, which as you can imagine has made life make alot more sense now, including my 92 rules):

- I only count league games. Some count cup or european, some friendlies too.
- I will redo when a club moves ground, but I wont redo if someone drops out the efl and then returns at same ground
- I treat it as an ongoing project, number going down with relegation etc, but some will stop once 92 hit once.
- I have to get a programme from the game if one exists.
- I take a selfie from my seat at the game, and a photo of club badge/main sign outside ground
- i prefer to do a full lap outside of ground before game when I can, but not essential
- i used to insist on pie and hot food (ideally local for both) bought inside the ground, but I got quite fat quite quick so gave that up
- I keep a spreadsheet of the result and match facts plus a link to highlights on youtube. Plus also how I travelled there and who came with me.

Im also not counting ones that I did as a teenager 25yrs ago as dont really remember the day. But, I may chill out on that as the number creeps up. Not sure. At moment Im just not prioritising ones Ive done in distant past.

I think everyone has a slightly different version of the rules… the ones we use are:

- Must be a first team competitive game (friendlies don’t count, cups do).
- If you do the ground and they drop out of the league and come back again, that’s fine.
- If you do the ground while they’re in the Conference and then they come up, it counts. I’m not entirely comfortable with this one, but mates have voted it in.
- If a club moves ground, you have to do the new one, that’s cost me several I’ve had to re-do over the years. Tottenham is a grey area as the current pitch over-laps the old one, but I’ve been black-balled and told I had to do it again. (Went to Spurs ladies v Man U ladies a year or two ago)

For your 92nd, you need to do that in fancy dress. I’ve actually made that one up as the first of our mates completes it at Barrow tomorrow. He’s not buying it.

I think the most important thing is to enjoy your day. I too set my own rules but I wouldn't claim to be in the official 92 club with a badge and a tie. I don't think friendlies count for the official 92 Club but I'm not planning to visit Carlisle again anytime soon.

This is exactly it - its a journey so we just enjoy it. My joy is seeing the differing communities around the country and what their team means to them. Its really interesting how everywhere is different and football really is a universal language.

Doing the last one in fancy dress is amazing - I hope its full kit, nothing funnier than an adult in shirt, shorts, socks lol

Re our discussion on this at the station on Saturday, just worked out I'm at 83. Like you, I've lost a couple due to moves but should Hoover up Spurs and Brentford in the next few weeks. Otherwise, I'll have to hope for cup draws at Newport, Chesterfield, Mansfield, Salford, Harrogate, Wrexham and Bromley.

Good to see that WSl is included now. Otherwise quite a few grounds would otherwise be difficult to get to.

I experienced the Emirates Stadium only because of the WSL. Good game it was, too.

Brentford will be the 270th stadium I’ve seen football in and the 100th that I’ve seen Ipswich play in. That includes league, cup, friendly and demolished grounds.

For the current 92 league grounds, I’ve been stuck in the high 80s for years (by the end of this season, I’ll have been to at least 88, and 75 of them with Ipswich) but haven’t really got a desire to complete anything. It’s nice to save a few to hope for in cup draws.

I have never kept a record of the grounds I've visited, but must be upwards of 70 or so. I think only the grounds your club play in should count, but I am way behind the times. I have visited most top flight Italian and Spanish sides, but wouldn't count them as only a few were against Ipswich. Impossible I would think to keep 92 going every season, so maybe try just going to games that appeal? Anybody could say they have done it and with photo shot or what ever it's called, easy to put yourself inside any ground I would think.

I missed the trip to Anfield - too depressed after Wrexham and assumed we'd get battered.

Then after winning there was sure to go to Old Trafford for the win that would surely follow...

I don't follow the logic of that claim: If it's the same club and not a phoenix version, and they were in the league, and now they're back, then what is it that needs to be authenticated?

I just totalled mine for each. I’m not a million miles off:

88/92 of the football league (if we’re looking at professional clubs, I’m also 20/24 for the Conference Premier)
9/12 for the rugby league Super League
7/10 for the rugby union Premiership
12/18 of the cricket County Championship
