The sooner they rename it Sportsperson of the Year, the better. It's never been about their personality, but people always jump on that bandwagon, saying the winner has no personality etc.
The 'woke element', whatever that actually means isn't the thing that bothers me
It's more the BBC's determination to make this into an event
The way the awards are awarded now seems flawed, it relies on mob rule open to abuse, a classic example being when a nearly retired Ryan Giggs got it, rather than a lifetime achievement award

Seem to recall that Giggs had quite a busy year that year...
But as he gets a bonus every time he breaks the world record, he does it 1cm at a time to get 10 bonuses. Conning the sport and public by not doing his best in events.

But his 'conning' is already the best in history? Why wouldn't he make the most out of a short career. He gave the paris crowd a world record when he already won gold at the biggest event?

A true sportsman gives his best in all competitions, he clearly doesn’t.
