Personally think this is bonkers. If he starts it'll be because McKenna feels we have no other choice - but he's already beyond lucky that he's had so much PL experience. No other PL club has such issues in forward depth that they'd bring him on. So he needs to earn it, not have it as a reward for running around a bit.
We have the Championship top scorer from last season, which is two levels above the only league that Ali is currently proven in. So hopefully that's how we start off. |  |

I’m not sure why he deserves it. I’m not saying he doesn’t but can’t think of why anybody deserves it more than others.
Anyway it’s not about that. Pick the team which will give us the best chance of winning.
Smodics scored 30+ goals last season and has scored 3 already this year in the PL. It’s personally a no brainer for me but in KM we trust. | | | |

Ali is still carrying his chronic injury and playing through the pain barier so probably not good for more than about 20 minutes though.Would be crazy to start him unless no other option at all | | | |

Except that Szmodics is best played in the inside left forward position, not as a centre forward. He, Chaplin and Hutchinson need someone operating in front of them to bully and disrupt the defenders, or run at the goalie to make him play.
That is Al Hamadi's specialist position. It's what he's trained for. |  |

Where is the logic in Broadhead playing up front? He failed there last season, he's not started a Premier League game yet, he's by far and away the most lightweight of any of our forward options. It just makes no sense to me at all. |  | | |

These threads about "giving Ali a chance", "he deserves it" are really odd.
Anyone can see he's a bit out his depth, which is no disgrace, he's still behind a lot of the other team. He comes on for 10 mins and "tries hard" but we aren't a charity.
SS whether people like it or not, is a better player and has a much higher chance of scoring. | | | |

Do people not realise that SS simply didn’t play this role this year, or for us. He’s not a target man, bustling the opposition and roughing them up etc alongside busting his balls
He hopefully plays - but it will be with AAH - not instead. | | | |

Nothing you mention there are AAH qualities either (defenders at PL level will see him as a fly buzzing around, it’s not causing them any concerns)
SS atleast gives us the through ball option, with the ability to score when 1 on 1.

Precisely, Sammie is a great player but he isn’t going to work as a 9 in this system, Al Hamadi while clearly not a prem player yet has the physical attributes that SS does not, our entire system is set up around that focal point up top, we aren’t going to change that.
We so desperately need a no9 in Jan for the second year running, here’s hoping we can pick up a premier league Keiffer. |  |

Kieran surprised us all by playing Jackson as a front man n now and again. This wily Ulsterman has a few tricks up his sleeve, you have to realise. Doesn't have to be a bustling number 9.
