Why are Bristol Rovers known as the gas?

"The Gas" was originally coined as a derogatory term by the supporters of Bristol Rovers's rivals Bristol City, and was in reference to the large gas works adjacent to the old Bristol Rovers stadium, in Eastville, Bristol which wafted the sometimes overpowering odour of town gas across the crowd.

	Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

It certainly looks no better than the side that could't get past Wimbledon. (Ok, that team hardly knew each other, but I doubt Wimbledon's did either.)
