Arthritis worse in cold weather 12:32 - Feb 8 with 1944 views | reusersfreekicks | Anyone know if this is myth or reality. I seem to have a combo of inflammatory arthritis and the wear and tear type. Have not noticed a change so much in previous winters but this year has been pretty cack.Much more stiffness and aching.
Arthritis worse in cold weather on 12:34 - Feb 8 with 1923 views | gainsboroughblue | Definitely real mate. I wear gloves in the winter as it plays havoc with my wrist/carpal tunnel. My mum was riddled of all sorts of arthritic/osteoporosis issues when she was alive and it was horrendous for her in the winter. She'd come back from a holiday in the sun practically a new woman.

I also buy turmeric oil. It does stain the skin if you don't rub it in fully but it does take the edge off for me at times if I use it enough.

Arthritis worse in cold weather on 12:43 - Feb 8 with 1866 views | gtsb1966 | Myth fo me as I get it at random times of the year. I'm currently seeing a rheumatologist and may have to go on a drug that has a very low dose of chemo in it. At the moment I'm resisting it as that's a last resort. I get it in my hands and ankles. I get flu symptoms with it which is a common sign of rheumatoid arthritis. Have you seen your doctor. Naproxen helps a lot .

Yes just not keen on taking anti inflammatories continually with effect on the stomach etc. All started during the pandemic and working from home when in effect I stopped moving. Seized up in reality and not been the same since. [Post edited 8 Feb 13:07]

As well as turmeric being good, have you tried olive oil? https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/healthy-living/nutrition/healthy-eatin

I’ve read about Turmeric supposedly being good but don’t know anyone who uses it. Does it take long to build up or is the effect pretty quick? | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Arthritis worse in cold weather on 14:00 - Feb 8 with 1622 views | Chondzoresk | As a permanent sufferer of arthritis (replacement knee and another replacement in due course due to this) yes, cold weather has ramifications on the issue. I also have ankylosing spondylitis in my spine (basically arthritic fusing), so feel pretty much used to all the nonsense that goes with suffering arthritis. I suggest to you to get fully checked out with your doctor and get blood tests done. Don’t get any anti inflammatory tablets. Ones like Naproxen or Meloxicam will rot your stomach which leads to further issues. Go swimming and light exercise will help. Be positive. I also believe arthritis is hereditary. Look into family history. I wish you good luck.

Have had rheumatoid arthritis for about 4 years it took about 18 months to get the right dosage to control it, but the dosage of 15 mg of mtx once per week and a folic acid 5 mg the day after for me is great , I see rheumatologist every 3 months for blood tests to monitor my levels admittedly it is a bit worse in colder weather, I am 74 yeas old and walk the dog 5 miles every day without pain if offered I can recommend MTX and folic acid.

Unfortunately you have the more serious form of Arthritis. As Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease it attacks multiple areas during a flare up. Osteoarthritis tends to affect one area at a time. I have Osteoarthritis and warm dry weather is a major relief to me. I fortunately have no experience of Rheumatoid Arthritis so don’t know of the benefits non damp warm weather. Irish weather is not good for Osteo.
Arthritis worse in cold weather on 04:49 - Feb 9 with 1168 views | Benters | Well .. people or most people definitely feel better in the sunshine then the cold wet weather,to be honest I try to enjoy the weather as much as I can whatever if throws at me.I always try to exercise most days walking or cycling,I think that helps.Gardening definitely helps. I do take cod liver tabs and Vit C tabs as for the aches and pains I believe you do ache more when it’s cold and wet compared to warmer drier temperatures.

Word of warning. Not having a go but we are not doctors. Lady Lucan has recently been cursed with arthritis and she is on Methotrexate, so I assume some other sufferers are. She has been told she cannot mix Ibuprofen (Flarin is Ibuprofin) with Methotrexate

The Mrs started aching only last September and now she has been diagnosed and has it really bad. The Chemo drug is I believe Methotrexate, which i spoke about above. I think that's the one she takes once a week and it knocks you out for a couple of days. From what i have learnt, rheumatoid arthritis is basically your body attacking itself so to help this the drugs lower your immune system - hence you are prone to coughs and colds. I can't believe how quick it has come on and what a life changer it is. It's fecking off the scale!

I haven't got it as bad as your good lady so I'm trying to avoid that drug for as long as I can. Thankfully I dint get it bad for long periods but when I do it lasts a couple of weeks and I ache all over like the flu. I have to take a tablet daily for an underactive thyroid which is also an autoimmune illness. I don't know if the 2 are linked.
Arthritis worse in cold weather on 09:58 - Feb 9 with 953 views | OldFart71 | Don't think I suffer from arthritis but have noticed that this year I feel the cold much more than I have done before. Could be partly due to having cut back from having the heating on six hours a day to three as my energy bill has gone up by around 33% and I am using half as much. I do think standing charges are a rip off. You pay these for the methods of supply to your home. If for instance you were away for a month, therefore you are not using any gas or electricity why should you pay for the supply to your home. Rip off Britain is alive and well where everyone will add charges on things that in no way reflect the effort they have to put in to perform these tasks.
Arthritis worse in cold weather on 12:05 - Feb 9 with 876 views | DJR | The Costa Blanca (where many Brits have retired) has been reported as being very good for arthritis, and anecdotally the people I have spoken to there have confirmed this. Comparing London and Alicante, not only is Alicante warmer throughout the year, but its humidity in the colder months of January and February is much lower than London (as well as being lower overall throughout the year). And those looking to buy in the Costa Blanca have been told the following for as long as I can remember. "The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recognised Costa Blanca as the healthiest region to live in." [Post edited 9 Feb 12:18]
