How often do you not put a post up? 09:12 - Feb 5 with 3409 viewsHorsham

I mean in the case of having written and read it back and then thought something like ‘nah not worth it’ . Who does this and who doesn’t? I’ve got a couple of ideas of posters and who definitely don’t ever not post something they wrote!

I bet if written but never posted was viewable the hot takes and rows would be off the scale.

Shall I post this? Yeah

Edit: I edited earlier but can’t remember why.

Yep, fairly often. There are definitely replies I have thought much better of before getting anywhere near posting them and I'm quite glad of that.

I'd say this is what happens to about 50% of my posts these days. Almost didn't send this one!

I got attacked for posting about Muric starting our next league game yesterday. I don't understand why really, and got told off and dragged into a slagging/downvoiting match.

I partly expect him to though, just my view. I guess some of our views get a harsher response than others.

I think I actually post less than half of what I write to be honest!

Even though I’ve posted about the Muric debate. There’s a lot of times I haven’t if you get what I mean. Do you ever ‘not post’ though?

Am doing this a lot myself. Often a case of thinking "am I adding value to this thread or am I just repeating points already well made?"

This isn't meant as a judgement on your post specifically, but I think for a lot of posts which descend into mudslinging the problem isn't the opinion shared but the way it was worded. Not what you say, it's how you say it sometimes.

As for up and downvotes this shouldn't be taken personally - it's just a shorthand way to say one agrees or disagrees with a post.

I think I do that more or less as often as not.

Usually down to:

Actually I don't have a clue what I'm talking about so why bother

Yup, another one here that does this. I do this quite often after games, reading the reply before sending and deciding:

A: It's biting at something I need not get involved in
B: It is total waffle, not making much sense or not adding anything relevant or interesting
C: It's just contrary - I can at times, in person, be an awkward character and end up arguing myself into a corner rather than admitting I've not thought it through completely
D: I just can't be bothered with the effort to complete the post as I've lost interest

As you can probably tell from the above list it happens fairly often!

….both times I’ve deleted it after thinking that it’s not worth the bother when someone will just purposely misinterpret it and make a massive fuss.

I do this.

50%.

Sometimes because I think to myself, this topic isn't worth engaging with, but mostly because I'm not getting my point across well enough or I'm too similar to what someone else has said so I just throw them an uppie.

It is clear from comments already made that many of us think trice before posting.

There a few others who might like to think about doing the same.

On a connected issue, edited posts, it would be helpful if a reason was given for the edit. Eg corrected spelling/ grammar.

What amazes me is that some still appear to think that what they're posting is STILL a good idea having thought about it a bit.

I often am guilty of editing my posts and not stating the reason. This is pretty much exclusively due to spelling/auto-correct errors, though.

Perhaps Gav can look into adding a drop-down field for post-editing, meaning you need to choose a reason for the edit before you can confirm the edit. Also, maybe an edited post could have a link within it to check the original post as I'm aware of occasions where posters have posted inflammatory posts only to edit to something totally different later making any replies look stupid or make no sense.

If I've changed or expanded the substance of a post, as opposed to spelling or grammar corrections, I tend to preface the added material with "Edit:" to make this clear.

Sometimes feel it would be nice to be able to see this by the subject line, so one can tell a post which might already have been read has subsequently been added to. At other times, when I have written gibberish, would prefer people not to know I've had to correct it.
