I wouldn't be at all surprised by this or Wrexham. Have long thought there's not a chance in hell the opening day fixtures in either the PL or Champ are "randomly" generated. [Post edited 26 Jun 2025 10:03]

There was a picture on Twitter yesterday of leaked first fixtures and that had us away to Wrexham on the Monday night. They’re not random, the PL have openly said there’s certain fixtures they avoid on opening day, and I think that’s true for the Football League too.

My hunch is it goes a bit further than avoiding and actually arrange others. And suspect it's Sky rather than PL or EFL who pull the strings. I mean ultimately, you play everyone twice but could really do without playing one of those two away on the opening weekend.

Probably. You never see derby matches for the first (or indeed) last games for example. I can remember us playing Nodge in the fourth game of 93/94 when we'd won the first three and were top of the Prem, but nothing earlier than that.

Same here- on plane out for Pompey game and then on plane home for Budgies game. Is it possible that game could switch to the Sunday, or just 12 midday on Saturday 4th?

I’m hoping it gets switched to Sunday as will be on a bus from Tbilisi to Kutaisi on the Saturday. My son has just messaged to say there is an Irish bar that shows the football in the city centre so all is not lost.

Yes, that clearly is the case, or else a mockery is being made of the laws of probability (looking at years of examples). Why can't corporate greed, for once, just forego a tiny little bit of an edge and let us have a truly random, noble, Corinthian, unmanipulated draw, eh? Eh? Fkn capitalists!
