| So, what next....? 08:48 - Mar 27 with 4148 views | Funge | It is inconceivable that Ashton stays - he has pissed off the supporters, the internal staff, and, by accounts, sponsors and a number of the 1st team squad - or, for brevity, absolutely everyone. He must go; I would assume that Werhun and Nash go with him. The radio silence from the club is, I suspect, a manifestation of 'fire-fighting' - in the first instance, McK and the players - god only knows what Mehmeti makes of all this, along with many others - not to mention the fact that the Town HR team will be in full effect, according to The Athletic/ Nick Ames. One would presume that the Americans are trying to compile some form of contingency plan; reasonable to assume that this will take a little time. How on earth McK keeps the squad remotely focussed throughout this is anyone's guess - another layer of irritation, on top of everything else, is Ashton's sheer fcking selfishness in, once again, making all of this about him. He has always put himself first; it seems that ITFC were a (very) useful vehicle for his ego. At least there is (a little) time before the next game; that said, the Americans need to present something pretty bloody quickly. Is it reasonable to expect some form of communication today? What a festering mess we have here, all as a result of this dense clown's desire to self-promote himself. That Blue Action post was remarkable - they, and we all, are ITFC, not you, Ashton, you slimy little toerag. | | | | |

My Wife works for a charity and has had alot of help and support from our local MP who is Labour, does that mean the organisation is only for the left and if Conservate / Reform voters found out she'd had lunch with this MP that she'd have to resign orthey'd start emailing her and trying to hound her out of her position no matter how well she's doing her job ? You can't be this ignorant surely. 'on his lunch break'?!!! He didn't share a Boots meal deal with him on a park bench. He invited him to the club, gave him a lunch in the chairman's suite, ordered our media team to help him film promotional content and gave him the club image to use as endorsement. If Farage was here as a local MP to speak about pot holes you might have a point. But he wasn't. No one's business except his?!!!!!!! It's our business. It's our club. Not his.

What is ridiculous is that after 4 days there are people still saying "it's just a lunch". That Ashton met Farage is clearly not the issue. It was allowing the club to be used a political propaganda. Then lieing about it, breaking trust with fans and media. This has angered and annoyed fans, players, staff and sponsors at a critical time of the season. Even those that support Reform (not saying you do, I have no idea) can surely acknowledge that creating an issue that divides the fanbase, affects morale and team spirit and cause discontent is very bad for the football club.

Again, Ashton and the Club have not publicised this AT ALL ... Farage did Again, same as my wife - the local MP will visit the charity, have lunch and will post pictures."I've been here this morning seeing the good work the charity does" it's what politicians do ... is my wife not allowed lunch with the Labour MP unless it's a Boots meal deal on park bench in case she offends anyone who doesn't vote Labour ??

Yeah, he was on his 'lunchbreak' - Mark Ashton's packed lunch making the New York Times; that's some pretty serious Kia-Ora he's sipping, right there. That properly made me chuckle, cheers. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Ashton, sitting in the home changing room with a Farage mask and shirt on to then have Phil step forward and rip the mask off Scooby Doo style and find out it was Marcus Evans all along...

This is evidently in no way the same as any politician doing outreach to a foodbank, community charity or youth group etc too discuss both the visited project and a wider political or social issue more generally. If it was that, and Farage visited the women's team, community projects etc, it would be an entirely different kettle of fish. If you think they are the same as what happened at Portman road then you are either very stupid or being deliberately disengenuous. [Post edited 27 Mar 10:00]

Although looking for any positives, it’s probably the closest he’s been to Clacton for a long time! Quite right. He’s got feck all to do with us, except for using us. We won’t be alone, he’ll be looking at other clubs too because there’s fertile ground for him amongst football fans (see FLA, the defence of him on here, etc.).

I love this Rhetoric that if i don't want Mark Ashton lynched and hung up then i'm thick, stupid, daft, ... call me what you like. Nobdoy has the right to tell Mark Ashton who he can and can't support politically and again ... the club did not publicise this Farage did like all MPs publicise everything they do. Do i think football should mix with politics ? Absolutely not and i don't agree with it BUT i also don't think it's the huge issue it's being made out to be either

You're called thick because you make points which have been refuted time and time again over the last four days. Maybe you should read some of the prior 100 responses to "why can't Mark Ashton support Farage" and figure out that isn't the issue at hand.

It's hard not to use this rhetoric when you miss the point so spectacularly. I think almost everybody would acknowledge that Mark Ashton as an individual is absolutely entitled to hold any politicial opinion and meet with whomever he pleases. However, as a representative of the football club, using the clubs facilities, image, name and reputation, then he should not be allowing the club to be used as political propaganda. How can you not see the difference? How can you not see it's a huge issue when it has angered fans, players, staff and sponsors? Fair enough, you might be OK with it happening. But surely you can see that the anger it has caused in others is a huge issue.

You're trying but you're not even convincing yourself. Ashton and the club haven't publicised it - do you think they printed 6 shirts, gave filming rights for them to use ground just got Farage's own personal scrap book? We orchestrated the public relations element of it. Reform shot a promotional video. It was not 'local MP inspected the winners at the Suffolk Show'.

I agree, this whole episode is ridiculous. I can't believe people are actually calling for Ashton to resign. I'm not a Farage fan but this really isn't the end of the world and I've even seen people calling out other fans as racists etc just because they also don't see much wrong in what has happened. A few people need to get a grip of themselves and realise that this is not the end of the world. I really hope that the American owners also see the sense of all of this and get behind Ashton and the club and concentrate on the more important issue of winning a few games of football.
