Could Mark Ashton and the group not have found a way to give KMcK a month off. He's probably worked the last 5 years without a break.

He’s gone and he’s not coming back. He’s walked out on us at the end of the day, probably down to the fact that we didn’t budge on the release cause as he wanted to go. My guess is he’ll be back in football by the end of the year, he just didn’t have the confidence that he could keep us up and didn’t want a second relegation on his CV.

He's hyper ambitious and I think we got all the benefit of that with his talent and work ethic to succeed.

At the end of the day I believe he is shattered but also that he has weighed everything up in terms of the next step in his career and decided it's the right time to go.

Gutted to see him go but understandable and for what he's given us he has my best wishes.

Impossible - I can only imagine the s**t that would have been posted on here had we headed into a premiership season with our manager on R&R leave!

At a time when we are about to plunge into another intensive bout of hiring, team-building, training and pre-season ahead of a crucial Prem campaign? Not realistically. McKenna himself will know that.

In any case, he may well need more time than just a month to truly relax and recharge.

The club would have to appoint what would effectively be a caretaker manager for several months. Who would take that job, to do all the season set-up and at least the opening run of games, with no long-term reward? How would the players, the new recruits handle that?

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

If he's back in football by the end of the year I think we still get the full release clause money so if you think the release clause is the reason then it seems unlikely he will be back that quickly.

The bloke is shattered and I don’t think a month would make any difference when it comes to taking time off and to be with the family .

No club worth their salt is going to be put off by 8million quid, whether that's next week or in two months time. I expect this time there wasn't the opportunity available, with Fulham and Palace seemingly off the menu, he's decided he couldn't go any further with us and is waiting for the next job after a bit of a break. He's no fool.

He's left a bit of a hero, but it doesn't look great for your chances when your manager leaves before the season, without a ball being kicked after millions spent on players and facilities, when we're allegedly so much better prepared for the Premier League this time.

I suspect what happened was Fulham were very interested, he was keen to go, the club wouldn't budge on the £8m release clause ad Fulham didn't want to spend that amount to recruit him.

He then had mentally checked out and no doubt used it as a good way to get a break for a few months before his next role.

No substance to this btw, just reading between the lines.

What McKenna did for our club in a short space of time was incredible and he leaves with our thanks. But he didn’t want to manage us anymore. We need to accept that and move on.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

Indeed, he probably felt as he turned down Palace he couldn't do it again.

Don't blame him btw, Think quite a few fans thought he would leave regardless at the end of the season, if this gives him a few months rest bite before taking on a new role then fair play to him.

5 years at one club these days is almost unheard of.

I had said all along he would be gone this summer, obviously not in the way it has played out though. I have heard Palace enquired again this summer..so I'm not convinced it was 'ever' Fulham.

Wish him all the best as he has brought the good times back to the club after 25yrs +.

However sad, we must move on.

My take fwiw,
He has to much love for the club and people surrounding it including supporters to leave town to take another job,
To put this bridge in between us better for all,
Himself his family the club every one who has a vested interest and the town itself,
He wouldn't be where he is today and not brought this club to where we are without calculation,
My take hats off to the man,
KIERON MCKENNA,

I agree we need to stop crying and get somebody in who believes they can keep us up and establish us in the Premiership.

I suspect MA did try to convince him to stay. But at the end of the day, KM obviously felt it was the right time to move on coupled with the benefit of spending some time with his family. He will get plenty of job offers probably around October/November.

I wish him well.

Think you're being a bit naive if you think the reason he left is purely because he wants a short break

Yes this is the most likely real reason. He could never come out and say that though.

100% ... he gets to have a 6/12 month break and cherry pick his next 'safe' PL job without having to worry about the threat of relegation and the sizeable clause.

I suspect he absolutely wants a break, but the leaving was never about needing to take a break. It's the opportunity to do that and also move your career on at the same time.

Is is absolutely beyond the realms of possibility that a dad does actually want to spend some time with his young family and wife after 5 years of barely seeing them. I took a year out to be with my 4 and 3 year old daughters full time when we moved to Ireland and it was one of best decisions I have made. There are numerous retired elite sports people who say the sacrifice of not seeing their family was huge and lead to family break ups and a disconnect with their children. Maybe he recognises this in his life. Maybe it's a cunning plan to become an elite manager. Maybe he has seen the future and knows some top job will become available year end. But there are very few 'safe' Premiership jobs. Look at Tottenham nearly getting relegated this year. Even Man City might be starting some season soon on minus points. Fulham, Palace, Brighton etc could easily find themselves in a relegation battle if you get a couple of signings wrong, lose a couple of players and have a run of injurries.
5 years is as long as you can expect for us really. If you are good then someone bigger wants you, if you are bad then we don't want you.
He was the right person at the right time after Lambert and Co. He made it fun and exciting to watch and support us again and, importantly, he brought some dignity and belief back to our club after the Shitshow of Lambert.
Good luck to him. We move on as a club.
